I have a standard rear end (not tubbed) and am looking to put the biggest (diameter and width) wheels on this thing. I have searched but didn't come up with and answer....what are my limits here? Thanks in advance!

I know a 28 inch tire will fit with a 10 inch wide tread. Rim will need to be 4 1/2 inch backspace.

I ran old-fashioned, L-60/14's on my rear for years!
BUT I did have to install coil-overs to raise the rear up about 4" or so.
They measure as a modern 298/53-14. 11.75" section and 26.5" tall on 9" rims with 3.5" backspacing! GREAT BIG mothers!! (I still have them mounted, up on my shelf in my garage along with my mounted E-60's!!
They were excellent with my E-60/14's on 7" rims in front! GREAT big-n-little OLD-SCHOOL look.
And I also have ran a 9.50-14 Firestone, Town&Country, Mud&Snow tire on my stock 14" x 6" steel rims with 3.75" b/s.
The old 9.50-14 measured like 29 to 29.5" tall! I also had to raise my rear up with them the same amount to keep the top inner of the wheelwell from sitting on them.
I figure these two are about the biggest AND tallest of the old-school tires back then that would fit the '67/'68 cars!!

That 275/60/15 is 10.8" wide, 28" tall and on a 15x8 with 4.5" bs fits fine. I have 285's and they rub on hard turns and off camber.

Doug, if I put those on my '67 I would be shredding quarters on the first little bump I hit.
It's not just "what is the biggest" question. Hell, with the right suspension I could fit some serious mudders on the '67. You need to take into account the ride height in the rear and plan accordingly.

CFunk. I understand.
I'm running 35+ y.o. mono leafs and gas shocks. No mods to wheel wells.

Read me again b/c I daily drove mine for years like I typed!!
And I had my car's supension so hard that it would almost skip sideways when I cobbed her while turning, going around a 90 degree corner at speed!!
To this day, I love ta kick my rearend out in a turn by using my throttle!!
