seems clear that 17x8 rear with 4.5 and 255/45/17 will work on the rear of a 68..
question is will 235/45/17 up front work with 4.5 back space and the same 17x8 rim with out rubbing?

i base my rear on this comment in a previous post

Tires are Eagle F1, Wheels Cragar SS
Front: 225-45-16 on 16 x 7 (3.875 bs)
Rear: 255-45-17 on 17 x 8 (4.5 bs)

I coulda used a bigger tire on the back, but couldn't get a 265, and didn't want to hassle with a 275. As it is, I have no rubbing anywhere, ever, even over railroad track with 4 people in it.

hmmm.... thems my tires, guess I'll talk about em...lol

I ran a 67 once with 245's... when I dropped some coin on tires and wheels for this car, I chose to be more conservative. The combo I'm running works, but it's not the biggest that can fit.

a 235 is not much bigger than a 225, less than 1/2", or a quarter on the inside a quarter on the outside. On the rims I run now, they would NOT clear. They would be into the fender on top. I'm also cheating a lil. The guldstrand mod plus 1 degree neg camber helps clearance a bunch.

If you go up an inch in rim width, and only up a half in backspace, the tires will move out a half inch. I do not have that to give at the ht my car is in front. Perhaps with 5" backspace it would work out.

note my car is MUCH lower than it looks in the pics. Those lil front tires are only 23.5" tall. My fender lip is 23.5" off the ground, the bumper is 15", the collectors 3 1/4".

should i go with the 225 and the 4.5 back spaceup on the front on the 68.. car is going to be lowered 1 1/2 inches in rear and 2" in front?

I'll see if the tires come with 5" back space.. they are "sixy eight" " hot wheel" tires built by KMC ..they come with a "hot wheel" logo on the cap they are from discount tires i'm not sure if they have a 5" backpace for the front

thanks in advance

so would 225/45/17 up front in a 17x8 fit with 4.5 b/s dropped 2"?

if so maybe i'll do that up front and 245/45/17 in 17x8 with 4.5 b/s dropped 1 1/2" in rear

discount tire direct insists that 235/45/17 will not rub on the front of a 68 camaro with 4 1/2 inches of backspace.. if i move to 5" of backspace they will not pay for shipping of the tires if they do not fit since it is beyond their guidelines... so i ordered the 235/45/17 with 4 1/2 b/s and they will pay for a new rim and tires along with shipping if they don't fit... so i'll post some pictures of the "hot wheels" sixty eights and let everyone know if they don't fit

fyi baer brakes puts the system inward 1/8 of an inch so it's an 1/8 of an inch plus 4 1/2 back space

car is heading for the shop next week so I am keeping my fingers crossed that 235/45/17 with 4.5 backspace will fit up front

fyi ,im using a 245/45x17 up front , and a 285/40x17 rear on my 68 with no issues. -camber-6% up front no rub 2"drop all four corners, minor wheelwell masage in rear. sticks like glue. bs up front on 17x8 is 5.00 rear is 17x9.5 with 5.75 bs this is with baer 13" track brakes on all 4 corners, they might bring your tires out 1/4" mine sit in wheelwell without hanging out, nice and sweet!
