Well, my car is almost running and low and behold I see two vacuum cannisters tucked inside each fender using factory mount holes. My question... I have a 68 camaro convertible with a regular grill. What should I look for in a vin or cowl tag? Also, friend said his RS came with different back up lights. Mine are in the lenses, nest to the red lenses.

Those aren't vacuum canisters, they are called cocktail shakers and they are supposed to be in every convertible Camaro. They are used to dampen vibration in convertibles since they don't have the same stiffness as the coupes. There should be two more in the trunk.
Heres everthing you want to know about them:

RS backup lights were in die-stamped holes in the rear valance panel, below the bumper.

Wait until you have to remove one of them. Man, those puppies are heavy.

What's inside them?
A big round thick cast iron weight that moves vertically on a fixed shaft with a spring above and below it, and it's filled with ATF.
