: rotted upper windshield/roof rail
smits67 Apr 24th, 03, 01:21 AM I removed my windshield yesterday to repair some minor rust in the lower portion of my windshield rail only to discover the entire upper rail is nearly rotted through(lower part is in fairly good shape).
Is it time to break out the metal fabrication tools and make a upper windshield/roof rail or does anyone know of a replacement piece that can be ordered?
Thanks,
Chris
HwyStarJoe Apr 24th, 03, 02:06 AM Ouch! :(
Search through the forum. I believe your only option is to break out the fab tools and go to town on it. Unless it's so bad that it warrants a complete roof section, which you can get aftermarket.
I was fortunate enough that only the far corners had small holes which patched up fine.
Good luck!

ldrisner Apr 24th, 03, 03:04 AM Hi
Your not going to belive this, but I just saw on ebay a front and back roof section for sale. It looked like someone removed a cheesy custom open roof job from a camaro or firebird.
The front section had about 8-10" section while the back had about 16" of the original roof section. It had been cut laterally and made the roof two different sections. It may help you, I don't know.

smits67 Apr 24th, 03, 05:29 AM Thanks guys.
Can I get a link to the ebay roof section?
The rust is extremely localised. It is strange, the side rails and lower rails are in great shape, but the upper(front) is very rusty, but does not extend to the roof line.
67RSM3 Apr 24th, 03, 06:46 AM Don't know whether this is the one or not. I kind of remember one from yesterday or the day before where it was just the front section of the roof. Will keep looking

smits67 Apr 24th, 03, 08:08 AM Thanks Randy. I was not able to find just the front section on ebay, but did see the complete roof. If I can not find a smaller section, I will fab one up.

HawaiianCamaro Apr 24th, 03, 09:49 AM a complete roof with the pillars and sail panels intact and only sitting at $21.50 Why cant I be on the Mainland. Only problem is they wont ship it, you must pick up
smits67 Apr 24th, 03, 01:45 PM Even though I will most likely fab the rail, that ebay roof panel looks like a "treasure" to me..................and I wonder why my garage is full of stuff I will never use! :D
Jonesy Apr 24th, 03, 02:25 PM $26.50 was a steal of a deal, unless there is something that you cant see in the pics.
