Ok, Here is the deal, i have been wanting a 1st gen camaro for a while to build a drag race car out of. Now, I found one in a junkyard. The problem is, It use to be a stock car. Full roll cage, etc. The body is beat. It would need definately, new cowl panel, new fenders, grill, hood, header panel, full 1/4's, new roof, trunk lid, and trunk pan. The question is, is it worth it?
BTW, it has no engine or trans, the rear axle is like a 8 or 10 lug pattern for the wheels, and there are no front wheels on the car, but the front suspension is still there.

How cheap can you get the car? How much work are you willing to put into the car (or better stated how much of the work needed are you capable of?)? Have you calculated what the cost is of all the replacement panels? Compare these costs with a different project car and see how it adds up.

Personally I would keep looking. It sounds like way too much work for a drag car. I know of a '69 junkyard shell in Kileen Texas that is in very good shape- hugger orange, no frame/ interior/ driveline/ body tag, surface rust only. No idea how much they want for it or if it is still there (been two years).

I work in a body shop. So any of the work im not capable of, I can get done by a friend or 2 that i work with for free. The thing is, Is it worth it? THe thing i like is there is already a rollcage, nothin great, but it helps, lol

It's great that your friends are willing to help if you need them. If you intend to tub the car, floor panels, wheel tubs, different rear end, and shock placement will also come into play. Take a very close look at the roll cage and then at a rule book from NHRA or IHRA. I'm not sure the cage will pass inspection for certification.
Sounds like an expensive proposition but then most of us on this board have experienced that before. Good luck.

Go for it. Put a glass front end on it. Replace the quarters with fiberglass pieces. If the car is that banged up don't worry about putting metal back on it. Glass doors too. And like Toby said, make sure the roll cage is legal before you build around it.
