I was on a post that stated there were two different styles of a-arms for 1969. ones for disc the others for drum. on the upper a-arms with disc there were two additional holes for the hose clamp bolt and tab. Were there any other differences on the uppers? what visual differences were on the lowers? Thanks everyone! Larry,69rfine

That is not true. Upper control arms 67-69 are virtually the same. There may be detail differences but type of brake has nothing to do with it.

Lowers differ between years, primarily due to location of the rubber stop mounting. Also 67s have welded lower shock mounting nuts, later versions used a clip nut.

William I think he is referring to the different part numbers offered by JohnZ in that post here Disk Brake A arms (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=77219)

Both the upper and lower control arms were different for disc brakes on a '69:

Drum brake uppers - 3914871-2
Disc brake uppers - 3955757-8
Drum brake lowers - 3960359-60
Disc brake lowers - 3945517-18

The unique part numbers for J52 are shown in the A.I.M. in J52, Sheet A1.

Larry it would be easier for us to follow your thoughts and questions on the same topic by staying in the same thread. The same folks will keep assisting there instead of jumping around like this. Thanks for understanding. It also keeps things better organized for those that use the Search feature later.

It is a matter of semantics.

The numbers John Z listed for disc brake application are from the assembly manual and are manufactured sub-assemblies as used in production. For service purposes Chevrolet did not differentiate control arm part numbers between drum/disc brakes:

upper:
3963843 lh
3963844 rh

lower:
6258451 lh
6258452 rh

The original question implies that there are physical differences in arms between disc/drum brakes. There is not.

I am no big-time pro at this sort of thing, but I have looked a good number of 1969 Camaros in my day. I agree that disk brake cars came with the holes for the hose support clamps and the non-disk cars did not!

The only difference that I am aware of between 67, 68 & 69 lower A arms is the holes on 68 & 69 where the bumps stops mounted.
68s are rear, 69s are front, and 67s had no bumpstop holes as they were mounted on the subframe..

I just bought new upper control arm for a disc brake camaro 69. I had to drill 2 quarter inch holes next to each other and tap one to fit a 5/16 brake line bolt to use with the factory clamp ( it has a hole for the bolt and a holder tab, hence the two holes needed) that holds the disc brake line to the arm. I HOPE that is the only difference or else I just ate 120 bucks. I guess I'll find out when I try to put it in next week.

My control arms were original to my drum brake equiped 69. When I converted to discs, I got the correct brackets off a junker, and had to drill the a-armfor the hose clamps.
