Guys,
Ive read what a lot of other people have done to repair their rusted out metal on the subframe body mounts. Seems like a lot of guys cut out the old metal and weld new metal in. Some weld the new "plates" to the top of the old metal.
It seems like most of the time this repair is done with the subframe off the car. Well, my subframe is in the car and i dont have the space to take things apart right now. So i wanted to know if this will work:
Can i just make a new square plate out of 1/8 or 3/16 just big enough for the 1.5" hole to be cut out of, cut the hole and slip the new metal onto the bottom of the subframe mount, reassemble, tack it in, disasemble and then fully weld the new metal in (on the bottom of the subframe mount). Then reassemble and repeat on the other side?
Is there any downside to this method? (welding the patch to the bottom of the mount)
By the way, Ive got DSE solid bushings in there now and will be keeping them
thanks guys
jeff
