Can any one tell me if they have had success
wet sanding Dupont Centari without hardener in it? I bought a 67 Camaro finished in Centari with no clear coat. I'm about to paint a new cowl induction hood for it but I don't want the exposure to the isocynates (sp?). Paint shop said OK to spray without the hardener, may lose a little gloss. I was told you could color sand with 1500 and buff as long as I let the paint dry for a long time. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Wear proper gear and just use the hardener! If you leave the hardener out all you have is junk for paint. It will be soluable, you will be able to wipe it off with a thinner rag, or GAS! You are really asking for trouble if you don't use any. When you add the hardener it chemicly cures, not just dries. It NEVER will be anywhere near as durable as with the hardener.

I've sprayed Centari many times without the hardener with great results. I know the hardener is the way to go, but tech info says "Wear fresh air induced respirator", I don't have access to that kind of gear.

With decent ventilation and a good charcoal respirator that FITS you are safe. You don't paint everyday, and I don't give a woop about what the data sheet says, You need the same protection whether you are using hardener or not! If you think you can slack off because you are not being exposed to the Isos then you are sadly mistaken.

Put the hardner in it. If you use the charcoal canister respirator, use the black canisters. Just protect yourself is all.
