View Full Version : Full Quarters

I'm in the process of installing full OER quarters on my 67 rs/ss. I'm considering leaving the jamb alone and cutting the original sheetmetal 1" behind the door jamb. I would then flange the new quarter to slide behind the old metal.

The reason i"m considering this is to maintain the body lines and maintain the door jamb indentations at the nader pin so that the jamb appears original.

I've never installed quarters before but this seems that it might work, but before I started some 2nd opinions would be nice.

All advice would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks
Chris

CRCW,

This method will never work. You could never get the panel positioned right by leaving the door jamb section in and sliding the repo under/behind it. You're going to either have to remove the door panel section by drilling the spot welds that secure it to the rocker panel and the inside quarter window panel. Or cutting the repo panel door jamb section.

Could you shoot me an email at mcneill1@home.com, I have a few questions for you.

Go ahead and replace the jamb area too, it's not difficult at all and will make for a much nicer job. I'm replacing 2 qtrs on my car right now, and it's not a big deal...worst part is breaking the spotwelds.

I agree, it would be much easier to replace the jamb also.

I have heard of people having trouble with body lines and I wanted to maintain the original indentations in the jamb. (I wish I could find and afford GM quarters!!!!)

Anyway, it was just a thought.

Thanks once again

Gambitt, I'm currently working my way towards the quarters on my 67 convt. I'm doing the floors first to gain some lost integrity from rusted pans. Next I'll rehinge and hang my doors BEFORE I cut off the quarters. My question is have you actually got the quarters off yet? How will/have you cut the panel at the rear quarter window? The info I have suggests that you cut below the quarter window until you are within approx. 2" from the door jamb. Then cut vertically to allow removal of the entire jamb area. It's a little confusing so decifer the best you can, thanks, chris

For you people that are installing 1/4s on a conv., and are wanting to maintain all the conv. style lines, that area below the 1/4 windows on a conv. are wider than a coupe, so you might want to cut accordingly.

If any are interested, I can e-mail you pics. of what coupe 1/4s look like installed on a conv.
