View Full Version : Got my 69 last night!
brianjw4 Apr 7th, 06, 10:19 AM Hey guys, I picked up a '69 last night and my wife and I are thrilled! I'm new to the site and I'm sure I'll be spending quite a bit of time here.
This car is in pretty good shape, but has the normal rust that all my other 60s cars had. I don't know for sure what options it came with originally because of the LOS tag , but it was orginially glacier blue with black standard interior. It shows that the car was built the second week in Nov (11B) just before they started coding the options in that plant, so i've read anyway. It's definitely a V8 car, so that's good.
We're just happy to have one. :)
RUSTY69 Apr 7th, 06, 10:39 AM congrats, and welcome aboard!.....pic's up yet?
brianjw4 Apr 7th, 06, 10:53 AM I added one to my profile, I'm sure how to add any others though
ChevyThunder Apr 7th, 06, 10:56 AM Brian,
Welcome to the site...the Van Nuys plant near LA never coded anything on the trim tags...Norwood started that in December 69...but.....you may have a build sheet for your car on top of the gas tank. If you want to venture a look we can give you some pointers on the best way to check it out....congratulations on the new car..try filling out the rest of your bio so we all know where you are located...
posting picture..you can go to a place like www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) and set up your own photo album for free...then you can copy and paste the links they give you directly into your post
brianjw4 Apr 7th, 06, 12:03 PM Thanks for the welcome. I filled out my bio information, I'm also in Northern California. I'll to set up a photo album so I can share some more pictures.
Now if I can just stop staring at it :D

RUSTY69 Apr 7th, 06, 01:08 PM looks great!..new sheetmetal? and looks like ur missing the cowl tag
brianjw4 Apr 7th, 06, 01:16 PM Yeah, the kid who had it before, who is also the one who painted some things red.... decided to try and make the car look like a drag car or something. I'm not sure what he was going for to be honest. He made a sheet metal firewall (which is gone now fortunately), so he removed the body tag when he put it on. Sigh. Fortunately he kept the original body tag.
The hood is new, and everything else seems to be original metal. The passenger door needs a new skin, and the right rear quarter needs to be replaced. Other than that, I think I've got a good base to work from. We'll see once it's stripped and I'll know the real story.
RUSTY69 Apr 7th, 06, 01:20 PM all in all , looks to be in really good shape, im sure it will look sweet back to factory color...
brianjw4 Apr 7th, 06, 01:52 PM Yeah, I can't complain. I got a heck of a deal on it, and it's mine and my wife's favorite car, so that's just a bonus.
I've got a 396 lined up for it that i'll be picking up tomorrow, so I'll probably sell the 350 since it's not the original engine anyway. My dad had a 69 camaro 396 SS convertible when he was younger, so he's excited about it too.
The suspension is all done and it already has new big block springs in it along with upgraded four piston disc brakes, the previous owner was going to put a 454 in it so it's all setup. This thing drives like a new car.
zuma Apr 7th, 06, 07:53 PM Brian, Congrats!!! :hurray: :beers: Another Nor Cal camaro owner!!! There are quite a few of us here! Looks like you got a soild car there. Where abouts are you in Sonoma County? My Parents are retired in Windsor and my Brother lives in Wikiup...Mike:D
brianjw4 Apr 8th, 06, 08:35 AM Gorgeous car Mike, very nice! If mine looks that good after paint I'll be thrilled. I'm planning on doing black with the hockey stripe sinces it's got the SS hood. I don't know if I can get into the original glacier blue color :D Maybe it will grow on me.
I'm up in Cotati, near Santa Rosa.
SnakeEyes Apr 8th, 06, 06:18 PM cool! congrats!
brianjw4 Apr 8th, 06, 07:06 PM Thanks guys, I have been looking over this car (and driving it around every couple hours :D) and it turns out the driver fender is new sheet metal. It's much thinner metal than the passenger side. I'm kind of glad in a way because I was wondering what these replacement fenders look like. This one looks pretty good.
RUSTY69 Apr 8th, 06, 07:29 PM might be the paint that makes it thicker, unless im wrong, the gauge of the new sheetmetal is same a factory...dont qoute me though...
69camarofast Apr 8th, 06, 07:46 PM real nice looking ride.. ..i see your in wine country..
brianjw4 Apr 8th, 06, 09:02 PM Wow, you guys have some great looking cars, plenty of inspiration around here.
