What would a short block with casting number 3782870 and heads numbered 461
be in way of candidate for rebuild/build up?? Thought to be a 327 from 64 vette?
No distributor,carb,manifold.
Any info and ballpark value would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

870 block was used in Corvettes from '62-'65, 461 heads from '61-'66.

Owner said it has been in storage for 30 years. "Standard bore, probably needs rings, bearing, seals" what would I look for as to performance components or to verify the engine components at a particular hp level. I assume that there were variations of performance levels in 327 vett engines?
Any thoughts?

The exact configuration (car line usage and hp level) is shown by the 2-letter suffix at the end of the engine assembly date stamp on the front pad.

Correct me if I am wrong guys but the 18L161687 looks to be out of a 67 Camaro to me. I don't have my book with me right now but if in fact it is I would go with that in your car.

The first info request was thought to be a vette engine circa 1964, which John seemed to comfirm as reasonable, apparently I need addition info from the block on that one. The follow up e mail, with vin, etc. is another engine, 327 "hi pro" out of "possibly a 60 something camaro or nova". Where do you guys find the code reference info( other than your recollection-amazing!!!)?
As noted I am looking for a era correct performance 327 to rebuild and put in a 67rs. Not looking to build a screamer, just a solid, representitive of the day, stock performance 327 driver.
This site is great, responses are very fast.
Thanks
