: butternut yellow vs. daytona yellow
kcs Mar 18th, 01, 12:09 PM My car goes to the bodyshop in about 3 weeks. Does anybody have a butternut yellow 68 out there? This is the original color on the car. It is a 68 rs/ss. I think I like the daytona yellow better. It is not a factory color for 68 but if it is going to be yellow, it might as well blind ya! The butternut seems to be dull.Any ideas?

HawaiianCamaro Mar 18th, 01, 12:38 PM Both colors are great. yes the butternut yellow seems dull but when its all polished up it will still turn alot more heads then any non-camaro next to it.
molaker Mar 18th, 01, 01:13 PM kcs, I had the same problem last year with my 68 ss conv.I like the daytona color better but the orignal was butternut. I decided to go with the orignal color because I was going to spend a lot of money, and to keep it orignal was the best way to go. I don't regret it at all it looks great with black stripes and I get a lot of looks.if its a true ss keep it orignal if its a clone paint it the way you like.
Blk69 Mar 18th, 01, 02:16 PM KCS,
My 69 SS was orgianlly
Silver. I don't like Silver so when I go to the trouble of painting it I want a color I like. I would go with the Daytona Yellow over the Butter nut. Looks cool doing burn outs!!!!!!!
kcs Mar 18th, 01, 02:20 PM Thanks for the advice guys! As far as it being a clone, I'm not sure if it is. As far as I can tell, it is an rs/ss. I don't have the original drivetrain because I bought the car as a dragcar. I am in the process of putting it back together. It will not be an original car. I like yellow, but what yellow is the question!
ssz28_41 Mar 18th, 01, 02:47 PM Daytona yellow is nice, but I just had by 67 painted 96 corvette competition yellow and it is really great. It's a deep and very bright yellow. The paint is very thin so you need a light gray or white sealer to cover good in 3-4 coats. I have had people who don't like yellow tell how great it looks.
TOMSTV Mar 18th, 01, 05:09 PM I found some pictures over at FIRST GEN CAMAROS, with the butternut color
try this http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/3652/nonjava.html
hope this helps
kcs Mar 19th, 01, 12:00 PM Thanks for the info and advice on the color. I still have a few weeks to decide. I'll keep ya posted!
Austin Mar 19th, 01, 05:57 PM kcs, where in Minnesota are you? I have a '69 daytona yellow in my garage (tore apart but the paint is still on it), and a friend of mine has a butternut yellow about a mile from my house. Let me know if your near my area.

I have a '69 RS that's butternut yellow. You can see it at the URL listed at the top.
gab7584 Mar 22nd, 01, 01:20 PM Hey jbalch, nice car! I like that better than daytona yellow. But the real question is what kind of coating did you put on your shop floor?
jbalch Mar 23rd, 01, 10:02 AM It's Behr garage floor epoxy. You can see more photos of my shop at www.jb.ngcsu.edu (http://www.jb.ngcsu.edu)
There's several photos of it during construction. It's kind of slow to load, the pic's are too big.

gab7584 Mar 23rd, 01, 07:33 PM Hi, thanks for the floor paint links, sorry for the disruption I still think you should go with butternut yellow, think of the low maintenance-every time you wash it you can hardly see the water spots if you don't wipe it perfectly clean. You only have to polish it up once a year. Work smarter not harder.
