I Have a 91 camaro. My key would not turn to the on or start position. I tried to replace the ignition switch w/ a toggle and push button. Here is my problem: I can't get passed the key security. I have tied the wires together, I also took out the air bag, put the wires together(no resister). The cpu will allow the car to turn on but not start. I jumped a hot to the battery and starter, so the car turns over, but no fuel is going to the throttle body. I have also reset the cpu by unplugging the battery, and unplugging the cpu itself. I am at a loss as what to do, any ideas would me out alot. My brother keeps asking " How do you like your camaro now." My reply is always the same, "I love it".

You must have the proper resister in the wiring or the CPU won't let the car start. Originally that resister was in the key, but you can add one in the wiring so it reads the correct resistance all the time. You need your original key and a good OHM meter to get the proper resistance value, or use the trial and error method, and there are 15 possible different resistance values, which can take the better part of a afternoon as anytime the CPU reads the wrong resistance 3 times the car is "locked" for 10 min or so even if the proper risistance is used during the "locked" period. If your key won't turn to the start or run position, how do you plan on steering the car, isn't the steering column locked?

The lock for the steering is taken apart. But I'll make of it first.

It was the last resistor, but it worked. Thank you for your help. Now the motor turns over and it won't start. I smell alot of fuel while it tries to start, and if it does start it dies out very quickly. I reset the cpu checked the throttle to see how much fuel it gets. It seems like alot but I don't know. Also while the breather was off it started and ran for a minute or so.

It was the last resistor, but it worked. Thank you for your help. Man, I hate when that happens. You might want to try some new spark plugs if the old ones are gas fouled. If the car has been sitting for some time you will want to run it till it gets to operating temp till everything starts "moving" again.

I have replaced the spark plugs. Still the same thing. A mechanic told me about a sensor on the engine block. He told me to unplug it and see how it runs. It ran, I need a new sensor. Thanks for the help it is greatly appriated.
