View Full Version : neutral safety switch wire connection
BigBlock69Camaro Apr 9th, 06, 10:22 PM Hello everyone. I just install Painless wire with 18 circuits in my 69 Camaro with center console. The wires to the safety switch come with 4 wires (2 purple and 2 green) I know the purple for the ignition and green for reverse. But which wire go to which connectors. Please see the switch at this link where i purchased: http://www.firewheelclassics.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=BL13 Thanks for the help, 917-613-6056 or email with drawing.
Rack Man Apr 9th, 06, 10:50 PM Well, the purple & purple/white wires should have a common connector on them that can only plug in one place..as looking at the photo you supplied...It's on the right
The reverse should actually be Pink & green w/ individual connectors that attach to the other two prongs ...on bottom of supplied pic
Hope that helps!
Dan

thanks Dan, but there are 2 green wires both say on wire backup light, I guess 1 for left side and 1 for right side can I attach both together for one connector?
Rack Man Apr 9th, 06, 11:28 PM They don't already have connectors on them??.
If not I would keep them seperate....I don't believe it matters which of the greens go on which prong.....Either that or I got mine right on the first try...The greens do however go on the bottom (of your pic) which is actually the top.
I purchased my console harness from M&H and it had every connector already on it when I got it....It was really ...Plug & play.....I did the entire cars harness & did not have one problem...
Brad74 Apr 10th, 06, 08:25 PM Thanks for the info. I have been trying to figure out which wires went where on that switch. My car was a column shift I converted to a floor. The factory manual doesn't specify colors, only the different shaped connectors. the NS is on the front, reverse lights on top. Thanks guys
Blown69RS Apr 10th, 06, 11:03 PM the 2 greens will go on either side of your switch for the backup lights to come "on" with reverse selected. If you hooked both greens together, they would always be "on" and never going through the switch to toggle.
1 is voltage to the switch, the other is output from switch to light sockets. left/right should not be separate, they will eventually join together in the harness to power both lights.
Right?
JimM Apr 11th, 06, 09:07 AM right
we are talking about a "painful" universal street rod harness, it's going to be considerably different thaan a stock type or reproduction harnes.
Best bet might be just to use an ohmeter on the switch. It's 2 switches in one case, 4 terminals total. One pair will close in reverse and the other pait will close in drive and neutral.
BigBlock69Camaro Apr 16th, 06, 09:18 PM just got those wires connected, reverse (green) works fine, but the purple wires for ignittion (park, neutral) does not have juice, did test with light tester with ignition on. No juice
JimM Apr 17th, 06, 08:16 AM One of the purple wires should have juice ONLY when the key is turned to START. It will not have juice with the key in any other position.
