I bought the diode needed to try and solve my run on problem, but my alternator has a connector with two wires- one blue and one white. (plus the other heavy red). Is there way to determine what wire gets the diode? Also how do you know which way to install the diode--trial and error? Thanks everyone.

Look at the MSD directions. It shows where to install and the direction. They also have the directions on-line.

The directions indicate to put the diode in the brown wire. I only have blue and white. I didn't know if there was a way to determine which wire I need to put the diode in.

The brown wire they refer to is at the voltage regulator located on the driver's side of the radiator support.

I have an internal voltage regulator though. I'll look to see if they are the same gauge wire.

Look at the 2 wire connector on the alternator. If the spades look like this l l it's an external regulated, if they look like this - - it's an internal. If it is an internal then someone probably jumpered the plug where the external regulator used to be. The blue and white wires are an indication it was jumpered. If you can find the old regulator harness you'll find the brown wire.

If you have a internally regulated alternator, put the diode on the wire that goes to terminal one of the alternator. There are markings to show which terminals are which, terminal one is usually closest to the BAT terminal, see pic in link http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/data/500/Alternator1.jpg

It's installed and it cured my problem. Thanks again
