Hi, looking for comments on a fitment problem with a "new oem" 302 oil pan bought on ebay. Came with GM stickers, made in Canada, black primered, with inner oil control rails. When fit to the engine, there's a gap around the timing cover/oil pan curve. The timing cover is a used oem unit for the 8" balancer. Thanks for looking.

sounds like you have the wrong rubber seal. There are 2 differant seals, a thick one and a thin one. I wanna say the GM started using the thicker seal around 1975 or so give or take a few years. With you having a repo oil pan I would guess it is made to use the thicker seal.
I hope this helps,
Nick

The black "Made in Canada" GM Service pans were all made well after 1975, and use the "thick" (0.41") front seal instead of the "thin" (0.22") front seal used on the original production Z/28 pan. The service pans were originally packaged with a "thick" replacement front seal.
