I found the passenger outer rocker will need to be replaced on my 68.( Must have been hit at one time and started to rust from the outside)
I havent done this before and could use some assistance.

Questions I have are ;
1. Can I just remove the existing and reweld the new in its place?
2. Does anything else have to come off before this is done?
3. What else should I know before getting into this?

Thanks for any help!

Have a look under the rockers sections of my website and you'll see the in-progress pictures of my outer rocker replacement.

check out the area where the outer rocker joins with the wheel housing, as those are a problem area

I'm replacing the drivers outer rocker on a 68 coupe, along with both full quarters, outer wheelhouses,drops,tail panel, trunk gutter and glass to trunk panel. Drivers qtr, wheelhouse, trunk to glass panel and outer rocker are out. I have the rocker back in and held in place with self taping screws until I have everything fit, (good thing because I had it too far forward) I repaired the hinges on the door and rehung it, I dry fit the Quarter, got ererything gapped pretty good on the outside.
MY Problem... the inner panel that the 1/4 glass mounts to and the 1/4 panel attaches to at the front edge looks like it is too far forward and slightly slanted up at the front edge. I have not tried to screw it off to the rocker yet. Any ideas on how to fix this? I was thinking about trying to jack up the wheelhouse area a little to see if this would bring it up, as it seems like it might be saging. Any one have a similar problem that can give me some help?

Are you refering to the bracket inside the quarter that the stricker bolts to?

Not really. If you look at the pics you will see that the inside panel at the rear (close to the tire) is about a 1/4" above the rocker the front (at the door) is about 3/4" above the rocker., When you look at the outside pic with the quarter on, the top front fits flush with the inside panel and the bottom edge is out past the quarter about 3/8". It might not even be anything I have to worry about, but to me it look like the inside panel has sagged.

Ah, I see now what you mean! Is the other side quarter and rocker cut off yet? I would do some measurements from the front A pillar to the rear quarter on both sides and make sure it isn't the bottom of the quarter that's too far in, and also look at the inside panel on the otherside and see how the bottom edge lines up. We need to figure out which one is really out of allignment. I wouldn't be so much concerned about the bottom of the panel as much as I would be about the side where it hits the lip of the quarter, because if that panel is tweaked, I'd be concerned about other things lining up like the window, and the vinyl real door panel that will have to go over it. If there weren't other things attaching to that panel I would say just cut it off smooth with the edge of the quarter if the quarter was lined up perfect, but we need to be sure first.

Unfortunately whoever had this car before me replaced the rocker on the other side, Its pop rivited in, I don't think it was welded at all. I really don't trust it, especially after some of the other bogus body work I found. Here are some pics of that side, you will see what I mean. http://www.picfury.com/galleries/ImageGallery-13335.html
