: sanding grit before primer

I was wondering what's the best grit to end with before priming and how to get there. I will be using PPG Kondar to prime the entire car. I have been using 3M 80 grit Stikit to "rough" things up and after the Filler. I really like the 3M Stikit in a roll but I don't want to buy more different grits than I need ($$$).

My question is, what is the next step? Can I go to 120 and then primer? Or should I do something like 100 then 150? Any thoughts out there?

Thanks,
Dan

Can anyone help? I've tried doing a search for a previous post but with no hard answers. On the one hand, I've heard that using 80 then priming is the way to go, but I know some go to 220. I don't mind going finer, but I don't want to buy unnecessary rolls of paper either.

note: I'm going over an old paint job that's not too thick so after smoothing it out with the 80, the topcoat is pretty much sanded off. I plan on spraying 3 primer coats for the first go round.

Thanks,
Dan

Go over the 80 grit with either 120 or 150, then prime. It will leave a finer finish and make your sanding of the primer easier. Also, I would not use Kondar primer, I would use NCP250,NCP270 or K38.
