I installed a MSD 6al, coil and distributer. I wired everything correctly, but have one question about the + coil wire. I had points before to let you know. There are two wires that connect to it. From what I read one is a resistor wire and one is a 12v wire from the starter...??? Can I use this to connect the switched wire that goes to the MSD box? Or can/do I have to cap them off and run a switched 12v wire from the fuse panel?

Note ..I can't get my hands on a volt meter until tommorrow, thats why I'm asking.

I used the original resister wire that went to the coil+ for the points. The small red is only for internal switching and doesn't pull any real current as the big red actually powers the ignition. the small red will "turn on" the box with as little as 4-5 volts so using the original resister wire is not a problem. You don't need the wire from the starter as long as the resister wire is hot in the start position. You can also use the fuse box but the resister wire is better because if the fuse ever blows, car quits running. With a MSD6al the only wires that go to the coil are the small orange and black from the MSD6al. Well I got bored last night and ran a wire from the fuse panel with a fusible link. Would there be any problem bypassing the two original wires/tape them back and just use the new 12v I ran? MSD calls for 12V so thats what I thought I should do.

Theres nothing wrong with that, i just prefer that the small red is on its "own" circuit. If you still have the original externally regulated charging system, you may need a diode if the car won't shut off with the key.
