Can you paint a headliner with regular base coat paint? We were painting the interior of my friend's recently painted 67 (Chevelle) yesterday and we painted the sun visors with the same (low gloss*) paint that we were painting the interior with. The visors came out really nice. Is there some reason that the entire headliner could not be painted?
Thanks for any advise.
Mike
* We used a 80% basecoat 20% clearcoat blended mixure to achieve a really nice low gloss finish on the metal pieces.

Vinyls should be stained or a laquar base with good preparation.
A suface that has flex, will eventually peel/flake

couldn't he mix in a flex agent, like when you paint plastic parts?

I dont know....I had to make a choice 2 yrs ago, I used matched paints in things like door panels with flecks etc...when it came to the hood linning (in reasonable condition) I made the call to replace it...If it turned to crap I didnt need the disappointment of sitting in a mint interior and horrible roof lining a yr or so down the line...I didnt need the hassle of then replacing and pulling glass etc again to do it right. I did it the lazy way...do it once do it right.
I also didnt do the seats...high flex, high wear areas ( my seats disnt need doing they are still mint and orginal) but if I had to I would have recovered.
Lazy is not taking short cuts, like a quick spay...To be Truly Lazy is a long term thing...do it once do it right and dont have to do it or worry about it for the next 20 to 30 yrs. Short term lazy, in my books verges on stupidity and false economy.

I had a buddy in high school that did a combination, paint some stuff, die some stuff on a 72 chevelle.Car had original green interior and it was pretty hidious but in good shape. He had the car painted black and like I said painted stuff that would "take" paint and died the other stuff black...it was still black when he sold it and looked pretty good...I wish it was still as simple as High school
