: Slip in rocker
jsouthco68camaro Apr 16th, 06, 07:54 AM Can someone tell me what exactly a slip on replacement rocker is like? Does it slide over the existing? What all does it cover?
Also..Where do you get them? All I have been finding is full rockers...
I am thinking of geting one to repair some damage to my passenger outer rocker panel.
clwilcox33 Apr 16th, 06, 08:20 AM slip on? Do you mean a skin/patch?
jsouthco68camaro Apr 16th, 06, 12:32 PM I was given the impression there was a product that was less than a full outer rocker out there.... I need to patch the center section of mine ,from top lip to below bottom lip...I dont have access to any metal forming tools and thought it would be easier if there was a patch, skin or slip on type I had heard of...
What is available to repair this?
HwyStarJoe Apr 16th, 06, 04:44 PM Yes, there are outer skin replacements. They're not very expensive. You can cut out what section(s) you need and "patch" your outer rocker areas with them. It's a good idea for people that can't or don't want to mess around with forming their own sheetmetal.
jsouthco68camaro Apr 17th, 06, 03:21 AM Any idea where I can get one?
HwyStarJoe Apr 17th, 06, 04:03 AM I believe any of the aftermarket suppliers offer them.
Do a search at Ground Up, Ricks, or Classics for "rocker". The imported skins are $69.
jsouthco68camaro Apr 17th, 06, 05:24 PM What exactly do you get when you buy a skin? Is it just like a door skin that you can cut off the existing and reweld it in its place or is it just used to be cut up for patches?

HwyStarJoe Apr 18th, 06, 06:38 AM It's used to replace the complete outer rocker skin.
There are bends and sections that replace certain bends and sections of the original. It's not as easy as it sounds or looks. At the rear area where the quarter meets the rocker, (there's that seam there) there is a bend that fits under the quarter and slides inside the body.
For what you want to do, it'll work fine. Just cut to match the section(s) you cut out of the original rocker.
RUSTY69 Apr 18th, 06, 06:48 AM looks like they are called "slip on type" classic industries has them part #K44500..basically a patch panel
bretcopsey Apr 18th, 06, 07:14 AM If the skins are the same as the ones that were put on my car many years ago, they stop under the carpet sills, before the "gutter" for the wiring. They also only cover the door opening in that area and do not go into the cowl in the dash. I hope that makes sense...
If there are any distributors nearby I would suggest taking a look in person.
jsouthco68camaro Apr 18th, 06, 08:15 PM I ordered one from Ricks. I will let you know how it works.
Thanks for all the help.
Jim
jsouthco68camaro Apr 23rd, 06, 03:29 PM Well i got my skin from Ricks and if I wasnt planning on just cutting a patch out of it, I would have sent it back. The 2nd bend was way off and would have had to be bent more to fit close at all...Would never have worked as a full skin.
