Hmmmmm.... How can a car with a mid January 1969 VIN, have a 04C Trim Tag??????? Puzzling!!

I love this line:

All the "so called" numbers matching Z cars out there hurts my head. Many are of course re-stamped due to the value being so high on the...

His head must be killing him!!

Thank's for the link William.

You're right about the pans, and by the look of some of the other metal and those lower quarters - I'd bring a magnet if I went to look at it...
Car seems to have been put through a partial intervention for resale.
:D On the upside - "the coated headers are equal to the originals..."

Oh yeah - as for the tag -

why pay for floor patch panels, when you can just cut out a couple pieces of raw sheetmetal and slap em in?...nice car though, wonder what it was back in 69?...wonder if he hooked up with the guy selling the "novelty" documentation yet?

I think it's ironic to see one of the stories on the magazine that tells you how to spot a rip-off Z28.

Could it be that the cars serial number has been changed and not the tag??? Rivets look ??? Not bad if they've been switched. I would be curious to know if the other vins match the title ###

Okay, I sent the seller a nice email yesterday asking him about the January VIN and the April Trim Tag and he replied this morning that he had no idea what was going on. I then emailed him recommending that he check the hidden VIN under the cowl and see if it matched the VIN on the dash. I basically said either the VIN's been replaced or the Trim Tag. He came back just a few minutes ago and said the VIN's DON'T match!

So basically the cars VIN's been swapped. I told him that I recommend he end the auction and get this taken care of because VIN swapping is a Federeal crime. This is exactly what he's done, so going by his emails, I believe he had no idea of the swap and is probably going to try to get this mess straightened out. From all indications so far, he looks to be an honest dealer. Hope things work out for him.

While the car did not impress me the swift action of Sweet Dreams Texas does. Seems like they honestly did not realize the car has problems.

I agree with William there.

It also goes to show how many times, a polite email approach will usually go a lot further than an "attack" and shoving it in the seller's face about how wrong his car is, etc. Nice job there, Ed.

Ed, I did the same thing the other day. I mailed him asking the same question. This was his answer "who knows. they had the strike that year too. the trim tag appears original with the round rivets."

I hope everything works out for him and the car, he is a stand up guy for doing the right thing.

I saw the car last weekend, the seller did not want to budge much on the price. I was thinking of offering him nothing close to what he was asking since I wanted to modify the car, maybe now is a good time to call again? They seem to be a good dealer that cares for their reputation.

William,

Yes, I agree totally. Ron appears to be a stand up guy. I haven't heard anything from him as of yet (I asked him to keep me informed and to feel free to contact me should he need help), but he DID say he was going to contact the Texas motor vehicle department to see what his next step was. If Texas is anything like California, he'll probably have to jump through a few hoops!! Hopefully neither of the two VIN's will come up hot!!! Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants! All that work and money spent just to have the car impounded!! Let's keep our fingers crossed...

Dave, thanks for the compliment. My parents instilled in me that you can catch more flies with honey then vinegar. I've always tried to take that to heart. And besides, most "dealers" out there really don't know the specifics of the cars they're selling anyway. Why beat up a guy that isn't knowledgable in the first place.

Oh yeah, by the way, although he didn't supply me the hidden VIN, he did say it would be more in line with the date on the Trim Tag, so there's a good possibility that it really is a Z. Especially since it appears (at least to me) that the Trim Tag's never been off the car.

I'll keep you all informed...

Ed
