What redline for a 11D car ?

About 99% of 1969 Z/28s built with a tachometer used a tach with a 6000 rpm red line.

From the start of production until around January 1969 the tach went to 7000rpm. At that time a tach that went to 8000 rpm was used. A very few late production Z/28s have a 6500 red line 8000 rpm tach.

I have one I beleive to be correct and it is 5500. I checked classic industries catalog and it shows early Z cars and 396/325 Hp sharing the same tach

that would be a 325 or 350 hp big block tach (99.9 %) It MAY be possible to have a Z with one, but unlikely original from the assembly line)

The 6000/7000 tach used in Z/28s until early 1969 was also used for 375/396 SS cars. 325 & 350 hp 396 cars used a 5500 rpm 7000 rpm tach.

It also has no valve on the frame rail under the drv seat but this I am told is correct for a early Z

As you know, our Z's are really close (11D...a few hundred cars), mine doesn't have the valve either.

The pressure regulating valve on the LH frame rail has nothing to do with performance options. Some 4 wheel drum cars have it.

I have a 10D Z and it too has the 6k redline 7k tach. It does have the valve mounted on the frame rail though.

My 10C Z has no tach, and no valve.

When about were tachs mandatory on 69 Z's? My 01C has no tach. ( no valve either)

from what I understand, they were never mandatory, but the later ones were more likely to have the U17 tach and gauge option.

A tachometer became a required option for Z/28 as of the April ordering info.

With a 4-6 week order lead time by mid-May or so they would all have a tachometer.

For the later Z/28, was the tach a required option, or included in the RPO Z/28 package? I thought the price increase was partially due to the tach being included in the package.

According to the info in Jerry M's books, tachometers were not mandatory equipment with the Z/28 package nor was there a mandatory price increase due to the inclusion of tachometers.

William's post is correct.
Tachs were required in the April/May timeframe. They were not part of the Z package but a required option, just like the disc brakes.

Hi Kurt. A couple of these guys listed in this thread that there cars do not have the valve on the frame under the drivers seat. Did all the 69 Camaro's with 12 bolts have that valve, or was in only certian months ?? Curious, thanks for any reply.

It's application was spotty. 10 bolt cars can have it and not all 12 bolt cars have it.
