We are restoring a 69 rs conv. 350 auto. trans. Now for the problem. The motor has been in and running for a few months now. The batt. was low from not being ran wouldn't start so I was charging it up. I needed to move the car so my son helped me push it. He turned on the key and took it out of park to move it then put it in park. But didn't turn off the key!!! Now the problem. I didn't see it and had to leave for 3 or 4 hrs. Turned it off when I found it. Checked the batt. its ok. now it won't start. found points melted so I changed them plus rotor,cond. and coil. Checked wire from dist. to coil OK. I still don't have any spark. motor turns over fine but, doesn't fire. Cannot find any burnt wires. everything under hood is new or rebuilt. Anyone have any ideas for me to check? Could it be that your points are not properly set? You can use a dwell meter to set the points while the car is cranking ... usually 28 to 32* range ... The other check is the 12 volt yellow wire that come from starter to coil. Did you reconnect that? It should be connected to same terminal as the resistor wire ...

When the key is in start position, you get 12 volts (through the starter relay) to the coil and then to the points. after the engine starts and is running, the voltage reaches the coil and points through the resistor wire/fusable link (around 8 volts).

put an volt meter on the coil connectors while you crank and in run position and see what you get.
