I recently bought a 69 convt. I've looked-up the number on thr trim tab, and have identified all the numbers. However, there is no X- number on the tab. What does this mean??? I was under the impression all 69's had an X-code.
If it helps, it was built at Norwood in Aug 69. Thanks for any hep you can give.

Why not post your cowl numbers here and then the folks can explain the X code program.

No, not all Norwood Camaros made after the middle of December 68 have X codes. The vast majority of them do, but some don't. I don't know why but I've seen a few that are that way, all of them were real tags BTW.

Is there any way to tell which options (RS, SS, etc.) the car had?

No! Without the paperwork from the car when new, such as build sheet, dealer invoice, POP card from the owners manual, etc. there is no exact way. It becomes an accumulation of evidence that sometimes some options can be figured out by knowing what to look for. The cowl tag and VIN are mostly useless in 68 and 69 unless its a Pace Car from Norwood Z11 on the tag and other similar specialty cars. You really need to post your VIN and Cowl tag and tranny and axle code numbers to begin that search. Photos would be very helpfull as well.
In addition, spend some time reading the ultimate source of accurate camaro info. at Camaro Research Group (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml)

Jim, also the car doesn't have any of the original drive train...383 stroked, 700R4, 9" ford rear. How do I send photos, and of what?? Let me know, and I'll be glad to send them.

Most of the X code era tags that I see missing the X code are convertibles.
Depending on how much original stuff is on the car will determine if you can tell what the car was. Does it have power disc brakes? How many fuel lines?

The same way you take any advice/comments/information from any single website/person on the internet! It is after all, the internet. With a grain of salt. Always do your own research. You should never 100% trust information from an anonymous person/website on the internet. If you do, that's just not a very smart move. If you are going to do so anyway, try at least to do your own research, either on the advice given, or at least on the person giving the advice. If it's from a forum like this, go back and read through the person's previous posts, see how long they've been around here, then try to make as informed a decision based on that as you can, but remember, even that is not 100%, it's the internet.

On this forum if someone gives you questionable advice there will be several others posting after them to correct the information. No one here purposely posts incorrect info that I have seen, they may make a mistake but it is always followed up with correct information. You would be hard pressed to find a broader knowledge base than on this site. You read all the replies to a question and filter out what you need. This site works great in my opinion. There are other very good first gen sites also, together they are a great resource.
