I recently purchased 69 Z and I not 100% sure it's a Z.
It has X77 on the trim tag. I found a "D" only on the rear seat brace. I know the car was green on green. It has a NOM (350). It is a 4pd, not a munice, 10 bolt rear, no front discs (pwr drums), PS, no sway bar, it has a console w/guages & a tach. I had the VIN checked, it didnt come back stolen. I sent a letter to the previously titled owner, got no repy. I got a signed title from which is different from the seller. I read something about a second VIN hidden under the dash? Can anyone tell me where it is? The car's in fair condition, needs quite a bit of work, but I figured that if its a real Z it would be worth it. What I really need is a way to deffenatly determine if it a Z or not. My theory is it got parked for some reason, someone offered to buy the drivetrain and Z components. Than years later some one relized it was a Z and put it back together. It has had a lot of body parts replaced: 1/4s, decklid w/spoiler and the entire front clip. IS IT A Z??????

You are missing some important stuff. I would post a picture of the trim tag & VIN so first we can determine if the tag itself is legit or not. ...does the car have the dual exhaust plate on the drivers side rear frame rail ?

Hidden VIN is on top of the cowl under the panel that covers your windshield wiper mechanism...You may be able to look through the slats/louvers and see it just left of center on the passenger side of the car. A flash light will help see in that area . Here is a picture but the panel has obviously been removed..gives you an idea what to look for

How about this valve on the drivers side sub frame rail right under the door ?

thats probably 02D Feb 4th week build date. X77 would be a Z28 but again, if the tag has been swapped or manufactured, which is getting more common, it needs to be verified. If you want to email a pic of the tag to Thunder or myself, we can post it for you here. email info. is under our profiles, click on our names.

The fact it doesn't have front disc brakes on it would make me doubt that it is a Z. While this isn't definitive, it is not likely someone would have gone through all the trouble to swap those out.

. . .X77 would be an SS . . .

I think you mean X77 would be a Z28.

Now you got me confused, I thought all Z were either a X-77 or X-33?
On the decoding page is lists X-77 as 69 Z/28?

You don't think it could have been parted out and they took the brakes?

It has the reinforcement plate for the dual exhaust. Sound like it's a Real Z.
So back to the start of all this... Any idea what the "D" on the rear seat support means?

Maybe its a piece meal car, built back from parts of 2 or more cars. Z28 body on Non-Z chassis. Could have been a wreck?

Some of the cars I see selling on ebay you would think could never be fixed they are so rusted out. But they are snapped up. I know a body man that has been working on a basket case Camaro for years. I lost count on how many parts cars he picked up.

My car is an X11 with dark green interior as well (although standard interior). It has "DG1" behind the back seat. Maybe your's says "DG7" and you can only read part of it?
