need to know did any of the 73 camaros come with vinyl tops i have just started restoring it and noticed it had 5 holes at each side of lower top could any one tell buy the vin what model it is if its LT1.Z28.RALLY OR WERE I COULD FIND OUT any help appr.thanks vin on car is 1087h6n0461 it looks like

My 73 Z-28 had a vinyl top. So the answer to your question is yes.
Also, you are more than welcome here, I think there are plenty of 2nd gen and even newer owners here.

Some of the RS characteristics are a split front bumper, a urathene nose piece, extra support bars in the front end, hideaway windshield wipers and a chrome trim ring around the tail lights just to name a few off the top of my head.

I just sold a 73 LT/Z28 back to my brother. He was the original owner. Here's the deal: A real Z/28 in 1973 WILL have "Z/28" on the cowl tag. Also, the 5th digit of the VIN should be "T". THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS. You won't be able to tell if it was a Type LT from the cowl tag or VIN. Don't confuse the Type LT (which debued in '73) with the "LT-1" engine. They have nothing to do with each other. The '73 Z/28 engine is the L-82, same as the Vette engine. I believe the only year for the LT-1 engine in the Camaro was 1970. Also in '73 you could get RS, Z-28, and Type LT all on one car or in any combination.

Whether the car had a vinyl top originally can be found on the trim tag. In the PNT code, it will be either number/number or number/letter. A letter in the code would denote a vinyl top.

The LT-1 was available in 70, 71 & 72 Camaros it had solid lifters. The 73 z/28 had hydraulic. If your car is a Type LT the first 5 digits in your vin would be 1S87, if it isn't an LT they would be 1Q87. The fifth digit is the engine code...F=307(115hp/205 ft.lbs.)...H=350(L65 145hp/255ft.lbs) with 2 bbl. carb....K=350(L48 175hp/270ft.lbs.) ...T=350 z/28(245hp/280ft.lbs) The sixth is the model year 3=1973. The seventh is N for Norwood assembly. The last six digits increased by one for each car built. As for production #'s...Camaro Coupe,6cyl=3,614 Camaro Coupe 8cyl=60,810 Type LT= 32,327 The engines L48=13,220 L65=50,262 Z/28=11,574 RS=11,364

This is true !
I have a real 73LT-Z28

I have been restoring my 73 z28 for years, almost finished, I can send you some pretty good pics of the process. If you can get your hands on one, pic up that loose 3 ring binder assembly manuals for it. I got mine at english town N.J. at a swap meet. It is a life saver.
