RamAirDave Apr 21st, 06, 12:09 AM Of course, he's listing it for a friend
Maybe we should start keeping decodes here of the loose tags also? I wont include the seller info.
Loose tag:
BDY # 307107
711 Black Std
57 57 Fathom Green
04C 3rd week of April
X77 Z28 w/o style trim
Kermi Apr 21st, 06, 12:11 AM looks like a real tag..Too bad thier auction even states to use it to make z recreation.
Jonesy Apr 21st, 06, 12:52 AM For this forum it's easier to track if you put the body number in like this:
NOR307107
RamAirDave Apr 21st, 06, 12:58 AM Gotcha Jonesy
Wasnt sure of the regular format, so I left the number seperate.

Gambitt Apr 21st, 06, 07:30 AM That tag is the same week as the tag on my Z. At least my car survived up until now...thank goodness:)

I've owned my '69 since early 1982. It's a Norwood build car without an X code. I'd "almost" guess this was waaayyyy before anyone even made half-way legit looking fake tags ('82). In other words, I'd bet my life that the tag on mine is the tag put on in the factory. Comparing the eBay tag to mine, there's a couple of HUGE issues that stand out to me as far as looking correct.
Maybe some of the formatting changed between X code tags and Non-X code tags?? If not, the eBay tag looks suspect to me to say the least.
RUSTY69 Apr 21st, 06, 11:51 AM ya know, if we kept a record of these tags, chances are somebody will pop up on the site with that tag one day..
Gambitt Apr 21st, 06, 12:26 PM Since my tag is the same date, I compared the two. They look exactly the same to me, except mine has a - - which makes it a little harder, but it looks good to me...it has all the same oddities that my tag has and I have owned my car since the early 80's too.

phel69 Apr 21st, 06, 07:52 PM Unfortunately it is a real tag in my opinion.
RSR Apr 21st, 06, 08:20 PM If the trim tag was saved where is the vin number tag and title? There should be some record of this car! Why would anybody pay 1000.00 for a tag that you can buy for 300.00 ?? Talk about gas prices, Go figure that !!
RamAirDave Apr 21st, 06, 08:45 PM [quote=rsr]Why would anybody pay 1000.00 for a tag that you can buy for 300.00 ??quote]
Thats because the new $300 tags are easy to spot.
Standard Team Camaro Disclaimer: We do not discuss on public forums what differentiates the real trim tags from the reproduction tags, only say whether or not it is real or fake. The information would help those making them.
BTW: Its a real tag

Gambitt Apr 21st, 06, 10:16 PM Dave,
I totally agree with your disclaimer...but, given a little more time the scammers will get it right. Where does that leave us then?
Gambitt
RamAirDave Apr 21st, 06, 11:56 PM Youre exactly right, Gambitt.
Given enough time, they probably will get them right. But we can only do what we can in order to not help them out.

RUSTY69 Apr 22nd, 06, 07:22 AM isn't there a way to find out if these cowl tags that flow constantly on ebay are off stolen cars?
Kurt S Apr 22nd, 06, 07:40 PM It's public info, seller is 7032bob out of VA. :)
It's been useful in the past when someone won't believe that the tag isn't original, just have them talk to the original seller......

NOR307107
Jonesy,
I don't agree. :)
If you search for 307107, only this thread comes up, the more recent one,
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?p=562428, doesn't appear.
Jonesy May 1st, 06, 08:50 AM Kurt
If you search using NOR307107 both links come up. I dont have a problem doing it either way (307107 or NOR307107), as long as it gets recorded.
Which way should we do it? :)
:beers: I think I have been using the LOSxxxxxx or NORxxxxxx format, maybe we should enter them in both ways!! :beers:
Kurt S May 1st, 06, 01:09 PM Too bad the search function doesn't respond to wildcards. Searching for *307107 would solve the problem. I've often had to search several times to find a VIN, depending on how it was written.
Wonder if that something that could be addressed. Al? :)
click May 1st, 06, 01:30 PM good inquiry, I asked Al to look at it for us. :)
sorry, the software is not capable of wildcard or boolean terms. It doesn't sound like it's going to be an option anytime soon either.
I tried a "search this site" via google and got disappointing results for some of the numbers.
other items worked ok. The format is like this:
NOR* site:www.camaros.net (http://www.camaros.net)
enter the above into a google search box.
Al
Kurt S May 1st, 06, 05:41 PM Al,
Thanks for looking into this. ;)
