There were two plants that built Camaro's correct? Norwood and Van nuys. Did the VIN's for both plants start at 100000. At any rate the last 6 on mine is 100095. It appears to be very early. Have any of you seen earlier VIN's. Mine is no longer stock (still have the pieces) but was only a 6cyl 3 sp car. Still very solid (350 4-speed) and within 15 miles on the original selling dealer. I still have the protecto plate.

Yes, I'd say you have a VERY early car! Both plants started at 100000 for 1967 with Van Nuys sharing the load between the Camaro and Full Sized cars. Your body number is 68 and your VIN is 95 (with your build date being 08D, or the 4th week of August, 1966), so yes, it's early indeed. I don't take care of the databases so I can't say if there are cars earlier than yours in it, but I would suspect that if there are, there wouldn't be too many in front of yours.

I'm sure one of the CRG guys can tell you more.

1967 12637 'LOS 1' is floating around somewhere, someone posted a photo not long ago.

The scheduling code is three days earlier than yours. P001 v.s. S065

LOS body number 1 has VIN #16; there is one other lower than #95 from Van Nuys.

There are a few with earlier build dates from Norwood including a possible pilot car with a May '66 date.

Pics of Body #1 and the VIN tag are in the Showroom where Al would like to place odd tags/lost or stolen ones. I might add it to my page as well since its a low numbered tag as well

And a POP from an early car showed up recently. These are the only 3 I know of, but undoubtably a few more early cars have survived.

We'd be curious for the data from / pic of your car's protecto plate. Don't see many POP's that early. Thanks!

Yes - P001, fisher body 001, vin #16 is still around. It's currently on our rotisserie getting a complete restoration. Should be completed by mid/late August. KS

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of the inside of the trunk lid and that stamping date off of it. My email is on my signature. Thanks.

It looks like the VIN tag was upside down when the VIN was stamped. The digits "123377L100095" appear to be raised up from the tag surface, but "CHEVROLET DD" and the two long stamped rails appear to be stamped down into the surface (concave) as though I'm looking at what would normally be the back side of the VIN tag.

"CHEVROLET DD" is also backwards compared to "123377L100095" which is odd.

Am I seeing things correctly? And if so, have other 67 VIN tags been seen like this?

I have turned the image over so people can see better. Your eyes are not deceiving you, it was stamped upside down. I have not seen any other like this myself but I do not have many vin pics compared to trim tag pics. I would bet that it is a simple error but not a common one. Quality control was in a meeting when this one came down the line.

We did a feature on a Norwood 67 convertible that was number 31. The deck lid on that car did not have the little square openingd in the inner panels to access spoiler nuts.

As far as the last 69, I restored a Z28 that was 711000 something, can't find my notes, but it was built the last week of December 1969. But it was a neat study with lots of 70 items on it, like the distributor and and gauges.

The last cars built were 1st week of Nov 1969.
