Will removing the distributer cap on my 68Z cause any thing to change setting-wise? I've been looking it over to see if it's a real-deal 1968 1111467, but can't seem to see any writing on the bare aluminum, or around the back by the rear of the motor. If it were a real 1111467 distributer, would the part number be visible without removing the cap?

Nothing should change and as memory serves you should be able to see the number.Wish I still had my u-2 paint code 68 RS Z!!!!!

You can see the number if you use a telescoping mirror and a flashlight. The number will be at the back of the dist, on the housing. It is not necessary to remove the cap, as the numbers are lower than where the cap sits.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just happened to have a telescoping mirror in my ready bag. The only problem is that the numbers are faint and backwards! Now it's really driving me crazy, as I think my car might still have the original 1111467 distributer! I'm thinking I might be able to photograph the image in the mirror and transfer it to the computer to enhance it a little...
