My car was OK last week. Now the starter works OK but I receive only 10 Volts in the distributor. (To low to start) but 12.4 volts on starter. If I place a wire from the windshield wiper motor to teh distributor, it starts.
My car has electronic ignition.
What is possibly happening?

Theres a resistor wire between the ignition switch and the ignition coil, in a stock wiring haqrness designed to lower running voltage to the coil to about 9 volts to lengthen the life of the points. Most electronic ignitions, especially mallories require you to bypass this wire to get a full 12V to the coil. There should also be a yellow wire running up from the R terminal on the starter to the coil, that will provide 12V from the starter directly to the coil during starting.
