We've installed 1 full floor pan.
2 new door skins.
Now working on the quarters.

For those about to install full qtrs melt the led out with a propane torch other than trying to grind it out. Works much better and shows all the pinch welds.

Door skins are a peice of cake. Takes longer taking the old skins off than it does putting the new ones back on.
While they were apart every thing was cleaned and painted and greased and then undercoated.

I have my passanger door skin off right now and just finished glass beading the shell. I have a skin that looks like it will fit pretty well but I have some crash damage to bump out of the back door strike area of the shell before I start hammering the skin on. I am a little worried about how to position the skin on the shell, it looks like it can move front to back quite a bit, top to bottom is snug and should not move around. I just ordered a door skin hammer becouse I was worried about how to get in the fold area without damaging the shell. What did you use? Any hints would help!

I just had new skins put on my 67. They glued them on. They say it is stronger and won't rust like normal with no welds. Hope it works good. Good luck on yours mine is being blocked for the final time then comes the paint!!! OH YA!!
Cruise on....

First you need to dolly the shell back into shape. We had no problems with the skins moving around. Everything just set itself in as we started to dolly the folds over. On the edge where the hinges are there is a tang about midway of the skin that sets the left to right alignment. We litely sanded the edge to enable the skin to fold over a bit easier. We used 2 saw horses with cardboard and 2 blankets on top of it and then laid the skin down on that. We put the shell in and lined up the skin taking extra care the style lines where in the right relationship to the inner panel. The top corner of the door skin in the area that meets the fender didn't have the best crease for lining the bend up. Once we hang the fenders we'll address this area and correct it. The hardest part of the door skin to fold over is the very bottom. With the bend of the inner door it will only let you dolly the new skin in so much. Once we hammered it in as far as possible we used a tall 3/8 flat punch and a hammer and slowly, and litely hammered it flush. Once was all done I put about 20 tack welds around the new door and then grounded them down flush with a small die grinder. Take care and bend 1 edge at a time and slowly work the area back and forth with the hammer. Don't fold a small area all at once as it will distort the skin. Now this was my second job at doing door skins but it isn't hard at all, just take your time and some help will make it better. Also one main thing I did while hammering was to firmly place my palm on the back edge to allow the hammer to work more efficiently.
As far as the left to right slop, the factory skins have this too. You'll be able to get it real close just before the folds are done so don't worry, theres even still adj from your door hinges once you hang it on.
Good Luck RandyB.

Whenever I get the time I'll try to post some pics. This is a buddys car and he's taking pics as we go so we won't be short of before and after pics. I'll probably load them up on my website.

Thanks for the advice. I just came in from the shop where I was giving the inside of the door shell a second coat of POR15. Tomarrow morning I am going to start hammering the skin on the shell using your advise. I just got a door skinning hammer and hard rubber dolly that I think will help get in at the bottom of the shell. I hope it goes good, I'll let you know.

Cool taters Steve. I'm sure it will go quick and painlessly.
Don't it make ya feel good when you can do something like this on your own, not to mention the bucks you save by doing it yourself.
My website is www.angelfire.com/ky2/mycars (http://www.angelfire.com/ky2/mycars)
I'll post some pics of these cars I've been working on as soon as I can. I forgot to mention another buddys ride we've been working on is a 69SS camaro prostreet. This car is equipped with a 468 comp solid roller .666lift, merlin headed big block.
