I need to cut my driveshaft down 2" or so. It has been balanced recently and I would prefer not to have to balance it again.
Would it be possible to cut the 2" out of the center where there is no weights, and reweld?
Or cut the 2" off the one of the ends and reweld?

What's the better way to do this?

One of the end yokes needs to be cut off with a lathe. Then the tube needs to be cut to length, and the end yoke welded back on. The shaft will need to be re-straightened and balanced. Take it to a shop that does a lot of drivelines, and have it done right.

I agree with the above. This is one place not to cheat.

You will get one hell of a hum if you dont do it the correct way.

It is a lot cheaper to get 2 inches cut off and get it rebalanced than to do it yourself and have to get some lenght added back to make it right.
