View Full Version : How much HP can a stock fuel pump support? mnm99 Apr 25th, 06, 01:06 PM I should be around 350-375hp. Can I just use the stock pump? Steptoe Apr 25th, 06, 01:22 PM For sure At 4.5 to 5.5 psi and 3 pints a minute...thats a lot of hp. Greg O Apr 25th, 06, 01:23 PM I am guessing I have a bit over 500 HP at the crank and running low 11's with my stock fuel lines and a $9.99 Autozone fuel pump with no problems. You should be fine. mnm99 Apr 25th, 06, 01:37 PM Silly question... Is the pump mounted to the engine with just a gasket in between or do I need a mounting plate with a hole? The motor I got must have had a electric pump because the fuel boss had a solid plate on it. importkiller69ss Apr 25th, 06, 05:10 PM you have a plate that mounts with 2 bolts to the block with a rectangular hole on it and the pump mounts to that bravewink Apr 25th, 06, 05:26 PM stock fuel lines are those 5/16" lines? or the 3/8"? DZ Fool Apr 25th, 06, 07:55 PM I am guessing I have a bit over 500 HP at the crank and running low 11's with my stock fuel lines and a $9.99 Autozone fuel pump with no problems. You should be fine. Id bet a bunch of money the car would pick up 2 tenths with a quality fuel system DanW Apr 25th, 06, 09:14 PM http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=78896&highlight=fuel+pump I remember this very topic from a few days ago. Looks like <=500 hp for the stock pump on a street car. camaro_fever68 Apr 25th, 06, 10:59 PM I have a holley mechanical without the regulator that pumps 7 psi from 850 rpm idle to 6800rpm redline on a 477hp 383. I ran a gauge from my carb inlet line to my cowl when I was in doubt as to how much the pump put out. I ran it for a couple weeks and then removed it and put it back on the inlet where it belonged. Steptoe Apr 25th, 06, 11:28 PM you have a plate that mounts with 2 bolts to the block with a rectangular hole on it and the pump mounts to that And there is a push rod that goes up inside to drive the pump Greg O Apr 26th, 06, 08:46 AM bravewink, I blieve 3/8 but am not sure about the hard line to be honest. Whatever came on a 307 equiped RS in '69. DZ fool, I'll have to politely disagree. :) No way I am losing 2 tenths. The car never noses over, skips or drops MPH so it is not running out of fuel. I will say 2 things though...first, the quickest I have run in the 1/4 has been in the 11.20's. With the converter swap I am looking for 11.0s. We'll see if it makes a difference. Second, I only run a 1/4 once a year so I don't have hundreds of runs for data like I do for the 1/8 but I do have a couple dozen. I bought Eric68s old Carter mechanical pump so if I have trouble the back up plan is on the shelf. |
