SixtyAte Apr 27th, 06, 07:50 PM Dbl post.... Try the link.....above! Kev emdoller Apr 27th, 06, 08:26 PM Thanks but that post really doesn't help me a whole lot. I don't have a center consol so I'm somewhat blind with regards to finding the right location to cut. Also, the template on the other site is for a 69 and is not right for a 68. I've yet to see anyone post something that definitivly answer this. Ed spideynut Apr 27th, 06, 08:32 PM Heres the link http://www.geocities.com/hwystarjoe/index5.html . The hole is the same for 67-69. Console no console good luck. Eric Kammerer Apr 27th, 06, 08:50 PM Try this one and compare it to Joe's. http://firstgenfirebird.org/firebird/FAQ/docs/68ShiftHoleTemp.jpg Make sure you read what the templates creator had to say, about 3/4 the way down the page at this link. http://www.firstgenfirebird.org/firebird/FAQ/interior/consoles.html Lastly, I would compare how it sketches out on the tunnel with the photo in this auction. As far as I know, the automatic floorshift 67 and 67-68 4-speed hole is the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-68-69-Camaro-Auto-Trans-Tunnel-Console-Firebird-67_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34206QQitemZ46331515 76QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW#ebayphotohosting here's another. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/ekammerer/4speed_tunnel.jpg And another... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/ekammerer/tunnelb.jpg emdoller Apr 28th, 06, 09:07 AM This one looks better then the drawing that shows 3+ inches from the top. I will use the one with the ruler to try and measure something up, thanks!! Here's my summary (let me know if you agree): 1) There's a template floating around for a 69 hole. From what I can see it is NOT the same for a 68 as the distance from the top is way to far. 2) The 68 hole is about 1 5/8" from the edge of the 2nd indentation 3) The corner of the hole closest to the driver and the seat is about 1" from the edge of the bend in the tunnel and 1 1/2 inch on the top left corner (same side towards the dash). 4) The size of the hole is easy, I will use the boot holder as a reference. If these numbers are close, it will allow me to cut the hole. Is there anyone that thinks this is way off or am I close enough to make the cut? Thanks - Ed spideynut Apr 28th, 06, 08:38 PM Are using a Hurst Comp. Plus shifter? Thats what I have on an M20. That shifters (not tranny) been in a 67, 69. With no modification. go2fast Apr 29th, 06, 05:54 AM I usually take the handle off the shifter and install it, take out the two trans mount bolts, and jack the trans up until the shifter dimples the hump. Then cut a 4x3 inch hole around the dimple. Works every time. emdoller May 16th, 06, 03:23 PM Well, I made the cut based on the picture that has the ruler in it and it was PERFECT!! The tranny is in and it fit like a glove. Thanks for the picture!! Keep in mind the drawing floating around is NOT for a 68. Ed Eric Kammerer May 16th, 06, 06:58 PM Yahoooo! I can't remember where it came from, but I'm glad it worked for you. I always get a little nervous... |
