I picked up my 69 today from a shop here in Phoenix (Pro Dyno) who Installed my new exhaust system & Dyno'd my 383...anyways, got to talking with the manager there and it turns out the owner of the shop is a guy named Charles Hendrickson....he was the guy who raced on PINKS last year with the Vega that had carpet on the exterior of the car instead of paint (wooley mammoth)....Charles is now a technical advisor for the show.
So I was asking this guy about the legitimacy of the show and basically he told me that the entire first season was a complete farse and all BS. As a matter of fact when Charles raced the Vega...his competitior backed out on the day of race, so the show scrambled to find a replacement....they did and Charles smoked the guy.....and Charles left with nothing...other than maybe a bit of advertising for his business. They received no compensation to build the car or appearance fees....zero.
Charles was then contacted by the show to be a technical advisor...he agreed w/ conditions.....those being, that the races had to be legit...and that you really lost your car if you lost the race (races)....I think he was probably responsible for some of the changes this season.....Five races instead of three and the signing of "Pink Slips" at the begining of the show.
Basically, he assured me that this season is the real deal and if you lose....you lose your ride.....and that no monies are given to these guys to build cars or show up....
