Here's my delima, Its been now 26 years since I sold my first gen Camaro a 1967 SS street strip car. Then I was 20 now im 46 and got the urge to get back in. Then I could lug, tug, push, pull, lift, roll around on the floor and work on cars with minimal aches and pains. Now when I stand or sit bend my joints it sounds like kindling in a fire with all the popin and crackin, since back surgery cant do the lifting and rollin any more. I know many improvements have taken place over the years, cars are built better with stronger parts that hold up better than before. I found a pro street 68 needs a little attention nothing major mild 355 with a 350 turbo, old race car returned to the street feels like a 13 second car best I can remember. $18,500 try this link take a look see what you think. Or should i just get a plain street car lightly modified or just forget it and get a new boat. Thanks for the info rondox http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j11/rondox/?sc=1&multi=12&addtype=local&media=image If link doesnt work let me know

I'm not good about determining values for cars (as evidenced by my current car;)) but I can comment on the boat from personal experience. I've owned three new boats in 15 years. Sold the last boat to get motorcycles and build Camaro. Best decision I ever made. Still love boating, but the Camaro replaced the one I sold 16 years ago, and I am having the time of my life rebuilding this one (going for paint next Saturday). Sometimes it is hard to work on the car when the bikes are calling my name, but as I get closer to haivng it done, it is getting easeir to skip the ride and work on the car.

I'm not a water person so I can't help you with the boat question. The car your looking at is a nice car. I there are different types of car people. Some are originalists and others like to personalize their cars. I think you and I fall in the later catagory. I like your choice of car that you are considering on buying. It is pretty close to what I have. I like to make the occasional trip to the track and like everything else I do in life there is no moderation.

If you have freinds that are into cars it will make the physical part of the hobby easier and more enjoyable. If you do not have freinds then you can find some on this site and have a new group of freinds.

I am not the car show type, I am more the car go type.

Good luck!

I believe the definition of a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into. And I have heard that the two happiest days of a boat owners life are the day he buys his boat followed in pegging the joy meter by the day he sells it.

There are quite a few competent mechanics scattered around the country, who actually specialize in maintaining cars for baby boomers. My next door neighbor retired from being the service manager of the local Furd dealership. Within six months he had purchased an old bread truck hung an awning on it, bolted in an air compressor, portable generator, brake lathe and half of his roll around tool chests. Now he visits all of his old customers and works on keeping their Furd Mustangs and T-birds in tip top shape without having to worry about paying for the car inventory that's not selling by charging more for labor (that and I think he likes working on Furds, strange).

My best bud retired from the Chevy dealership after 38 years and now takes Camaros apart to sell parts on e-Bay, but he fixes cars for his baby boomer buddies (he still does my tranny and rear end work because that's his specialty; though he has a sleeve full of other ASE certifications).

The only problem with a performance mechanic is he can not hot rod (defeat the intent, implementation, or full functionality of) any smog era car ('73 up) without risking his license to do business and some healthy fines. (He can not even use oil dry or as I call it Kitty Litter to clean his floors cause the EPA says that generates hazardous wastes). So remember to take your tag with you when you drop off your car (that way it's an off road use only vehicle :D ).

And it's gonna get worse Dave!!

As we continue down the path that "innovative economy" is taking this country!!!

I wonder if anybody in GOV. has ever done a study to see how many people died from a heart attack, stroke OR STRESS alone b/c they LOST THEIR JOBS due to REG'S that clean the AIR!!!

Just to get back on the subject, that looks like a fine ride for $18k, snatch it up while the snatching is good, it won't last long.

As for gittin er done when we get older, we jus move a lil slower and take more breaks, that's all, it still gits done.

Hole in the water? ...sometimes like anything...day you buy it? true...day you selling it not true...i use mine a few times a year would not think of selling it...
its only for us... a hard core fishing family...i get them where the want to fish then i go and sleep..;) ..

Buy the car...you could get the boat later...boats will always be around ...car might sell fast...boat, you will always have time for..

Its going to be alot cheaper to RENT a boat every time you go to the lake or ocean than it is to own and maintain a boat. Boat will depreciate as well. Stick your money where it won't be losing each day its sitting in the yard or driveway and buy the classic car, then rent a boat any time you need to go to the water.

Years ago when I worked for WA Shaeffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA, I had a Buddy that was divorced that lived on a boat in the Miss. River!!

He had a house boat and an old 15' Mahogany hull Chris-Craft down at Keokuk, IA with an old 265 Chevy V-8 PP motor in it..

Way cool to me but you gotta probably be single...

I can SURE relate to that situation.
I'm 45, and have three degenerative disks in my lower back.
I'm in pain 24/7, just a question of how much.

But somehow it doesn't hurt quite as bad when I'm wrenchin' on the car :D
Like you said, I know I can't do everything I used to, but I can still do most projects myself. And I'll farm out what I can't physically do.

Get the car, you'll have a blast.
