Guys,

Im moving to Salt Lake City. Ill be working with Moog. What are some of the good areas to live? (West Jordan, S. Jordan, Draper, Sandy, Riverton, SLC, others)?

Wife wants a mall and the box stores (home depot, walmart (i know, i know), target etc).

I dont want to pay an arm and a leg for rent and dont want to drive more than half hour.

Also, any car related things to do? any car clubs?

thanks

jeff

Lots to do during the year, car stuff in the spring, summer, fall, skiing winter. Extremely scenic just about anywhere you go, plenty of big box stores just about everywhere. I live in West Jordan, and really like it. I really dont know the rental market, but I am sure you will figure it out. Get ready for the rocky mountain views, you will love them. E-mail me, and I will tell you where to go for the car show information, Mike.

Every time I flew into SLC, it always amazed me to be able to see the shoreline water marks of old Lake Bonneville

You can walk the mountain sides and find sea shells from the Bonneville lake. It must have been spectacular.

I worked for Moog for 13 years, I was in E. Aurora NY and at the western development center in LA. Very solid company. Good luck on your move.

If you are working IN Salt Lake, you can't beat Davis County (Bountiful, Centerville, Farmington, Kaysville). Very light traffic. I have lived all over the valley in the last 14 years, but Bountiful is my preferred location.

The south part of the valley (the areas you suggested) is getting CRAZY. Heavy, heavy traffic and Saturday rush to go to dinner or the store is nuts.

As far as Car stuff, there is quite a bit. However, you will quickly notice that NOTHING happens on Sunday.

If your job is in the south part of the Salt Lake valley and you live in Bountiful, prepare for LA style bumper to bumper comutes! If you are not out of Salt Lake by 3:30 PM, or so, you are in deep do-do! One accident, and add another 30 minutes to the commute.

I spent four miserable years in SLC (U of U) and found that generally the further East you got the better the neighborhoods were. The West side was cheaper but the East side was nicer. Bountiful is a great place to live but a lousy commute if you have to get into Salt Lake.

Um, they're the Wasatch Mountains. The Rockies are a little further east.

http://www.jchackett.com/ Go to this site for the local car shows. Very well organized and alot of fun. Their are many other shows and events during the year, you should not be bored. There are also a couple of local cruising publications showing shows in the area including Utah Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Nevada, etc.
J.C. is a great guy, he plays the music at many events, so get to know him, hes great. If you need more information, just e-mail me, I would be happy to help you out. Isnt that what car guys do?

Sorry to revive an old post like this, but I am considering taking a job out at the Tooele Army Depot, and was hoping on some feedback on the various school systems out there. My wife is a paralegal, so we might have to live somewhere in the northwest part of SLC so that she could work in the city. I hear the Tooele school system is good but crowded.

I've worked a few weeks here and there both in my company's office in SLC and out at TEAD, but other than driving around mostly east of I-15, and spending time on I-80 and Route 36, I didn't really get a feel for the area.

My kids are 7 and 4, so school is really important.

Feedback?
