I like most of you hate the fact that people are making fake trim tags but this Ebay auction I did find to be a bit interesting. The car has a replacement vin from the North Carolina DMV and along with the new vin it has a brand new trim tag. For those that keep track of the tags though this one is almost amusing because the real trim tag (loose) was sold on E-bay almost exactly one month ago. The car went from a plane convertible with a tinted windshield to a 396 car with new interior and a few extra options. At least it is an easy fake to spot.

Why would they change the internal plant code from D to H?

According to the factory tag the car had red interior. The D indicated that the interior paint color was red as well. The change in interior color to blue would look horrible with red paint so I am guessing that is why they changed it although I have no idea if they actualy knew what the D was for and I do not know what color H would be if it were a correct designation myself.

Not an interior color code. It is a scheduling code that will usually have three more numbers behind it.

The internal scheduling codes (W/O numbers) were nly used at the LOS plant because they built multiple model lines. On NOR cars that letter is the interior paint code. There is no H color code though, a 717 interior car should have a B code, for blue paint. Should also have a -4 convertible top color for the blue top. Guess you need neat handwritting when ordering those repro tags or you get the wrong letters on your tags.
