I shipped mine from Montana to CA in late ’04 and then back in September ’05. In ’04 I paid $850. In ’05 I paid about $1250. $250 of the $1250 was for express pickup. I also paid extra because my car was inoperable and couldn’t be driven onto the trailer. (Open transport for both.)
It all depends on the time of year. Summer will cost more because everyone is moving. Fall will be expensive because the haulers are busy transporting new ’07 vehicles.
Don’t pick the cheapest transport—make sure they are reputable and have insurance. I found 5 or 6 companies on the web and then did some research to see how long they had been in business and if there were any BB complaints. Both transports went well but I wasn’t transporting a show car-mine was rust and bondo and I didn’t look for minor scratches and dings.

I shipped a motocross bike once and it was a nightmare, so I will definitely check into the company this time.

The car is in Tennessee, and I'm in California. It's just a rolling chassis.

Heck, can't you get a Buddy with a 1/2 or 3/4 ton DIESEL P/U and rent a car hauler trailer and make a long weekend road trip outta it for less money than that???

$1250????????????????????

Just seems like a lotta jack to me??

But, then again, I'm a tight-as-, er, eh, "frugal"....

I just shipped a Suburu SVX from Burlington Mass. to Reno Nevada for $850. Dependable Auto Shippers. It was cheap but took 2 1/2 weeks to get there.

I know $1250 is a lot but what happened if your buddy (who offered to tow your cheery ’68 Z28) blows a tire, looses control and dumps your ride in the ditch totaling it. Will his insurance cover your car? Will his insurance agent pay you the true value of the car? Will you still be friends after it is all said and done?
$1250 is a lot if nothing happen but if there is an accident most transport companies carry $500K to $1M in insurance.

I shipped my 69 Camaro from Colorado to Washington in an enclosed trailer for $1,100. Enclosed is the only way to go for a true, finished classic. If you would drive the car in the rain, then you can save about 1/3 by going with an open carrier. I see where yours is just a roller and in that case, you can have it shipped in an open carrier (which will save $), but you will have to pay an extra $200 for a non-operational vehicle surcharge. You can do a google search under auto transporters to get competitive bids. Whatever you do, check out the shipper/broker references and with the BBB and put the deposit of not more than $200 on your credit card just in case you get hooked into a bad deal. Also make sure the contract has a cancellation clause wherein you can cancel with full deposit refund if the car isn't picked up and delivered in a set period of time. I can give you a referral if you want to pm me at: challengermaniac

Matt,

I said "BUDDY" so I would take my chances!!

BUT you are right to be fully protected!!

I don't have a problem doing this b/c I did it when my wife and I was fighting and I moved out for about 5 months several years ago and didn't get my car back home for about three years later!!

Btw, Carl Edwards help me strap my car down when I left and took it up to my Mom's town!!
