OK here's the deal. We have a 1969 Camaro that we bought because it was such a beautiful car. It's not a big block it's a 307 with a 350 turboautomatic.BUT this car is pristine. It was a Florida car most of it's life so it has ZERO rust. We have been able to trace the car back to the original owner. except for a repaint in 1992 this car is totally original. I mean every number on this car is matching and the drive train is the one that the car was born with. It has power steering, power brakes, tilt steering column, AM-FM radio, air conditioning, which still works. It's interior is green with olympic gold paint and brown vinyl top. When you look under the hood it almost takes you breath away it's so clean and perfect. Everyones first reaction is WOW!
When we bought the car, we and I mean both hubby and wife talked it to death about what we would do to this car if we bought it. The decision was that we would buy the car and keep it just the way it was. Now that we have the car however hubby wants to change the rules. He has been conventing for a while an 1969 427 with a muncie 22 tranmission. He want's to rip out the 307 and go with the 427, muncie and a 12 bolt rear.

So should he do this or should we leave it alone. I want to leave it like it is. He has a 67 with a 427 in it already so it's not like he doesn't have one with POWER. I say that the future value with be greater if we leave it alone and he says no, only the big blocks, original or not are going to increase in value. So OK Guys what do you think. Should I hold my ground or let him do this.

I'll give you my opinion, beings you asked. I would leave the original car alone. The 67 with the 427 would be my toy, the 69 would be my cruiser type.

Leave it, throw the conversion money into the 67 shoot for 9s!!! Use the 69 to cruise around in.

If the car is as good as you describe it, I would absolutley keep it that way ---- there are plenty of ones that have been "modified" and far too few that remain in truly original condition

Another vote for leave it. Especially considering already have the 67 with 427. And its simply not true that big block cars are the ONLY cars that are increasing or going to increase in value.

Another vote for leaving it "stock". i have a 69 coupe that came from GM with a 307. It was on a stand and had a 327 IN the car, so I left the 327 in it. i don't agree that coupes do not go up in value. They won't appreciate as fast as a Z-28 or RS/SS, but they have been rocketing upward in value just the same. Here in Seattle, you can't find a 69 coupe that runs for under 8 or 10 grand! And they are only going to go up...

I'm a purist as well...however, It's not what we would do.....It's what you guys want to do with it that counts....If he REALLY wants a 427...then by all means do it....Just keep the original engine so that It could go back in if needed.

Maybe hubby just wants to make it his own....and enjoy the pleasure in doing it himself.....I say again....go for it...Otherwise, find another project car that he tinker with while enjoying the all original 307

No question about it---- leave it just the way it is. If he wants a place to put that 427, just buy another 69 that is not numbers matching and have at it.

Rip that turd of a 307 out and put the 427 in it! Just save all the original stuff!

Have you ever been to Florida? It's amazing what the salt in the air does to cars down there. Anyway, another vote for leave it alone.

And I'm not a purist by any means. He already has a "toy" keep this original and make the other one faster.:D

Leave it alone! #'s match truly original Camaro's are getting rarer and rarer. It's your car, do what you want, but if it were mine, I just couldn't bring myself to molest the originality.

I would say leave it alone. I converted my 307 auto to a 350 M22, but that was over 20 years ago and finding anything original that is as nice as you describe is getting harder all of the time. JMHO...
