Hi,
I have a 67 Camaro, I have a 454 in it. It has front disks and rear drum. There is barely room for the brake booster. It is about a 1/2 inch from the valve cover.
I want to change over to a smaller brake booster. Anyone recommend anything?
Is there somewhere I can find a step by step to do this? I've never done a brake booster before. :clonk:

PB with a BB will be a tight fit, but I dont think it should be 1/2" unless you have tall valve covers. If not, there is either an engine mount issue or an incorrect booster. After all, BB w/ PB came from the factory, so it should be fine.
If you decide to go with a smaller booster, theyre available through the aftermarket. They are a very simple swap. Just 6 nuts and the pin/clip to the brake pedal.

Whose valve covers do you have? Before you laugh, it does matter.
"Tall" is a loose term. Some tall V/C's are more of a medium height while others are very very tall. As an example, in most cases Moroso's "tall" fabbed ones will NOT let you run a normal sized booster, but their chrome plated "tall" stamped steel valve covers will.

I don't think he has tall covers because they would hit the windshield wiper motor. I only have about 5/8 of an inch clearance on my 396 with the short ones?

Do you have power steering? Try going the hydro-boost route.
A 572 would fit in there with the tallest valve covers then.
Do a search for hydroboost, or hydro boost and see if it's something you'd want to do.

I don't know if I would say it is a simple task. I've had mine on and off a few times and it is somewhat tedious to get to the nuts behind the booster and be able to loosen them. I found that a 9/16" ratchet wrench really comes in handy.

I do have tall valve covers. They are Edelbrock.
Thanks,

Are the Hydroboost brakes the same as what the Astrovans had?

I don't have windshield wipers on this at all.
This is why I can't drive it on a rainy day and I live in the Seattle area!!!!!!!!!
