What color should it be. I would like to be some what close to the orginal but not perfect. I have seen tons of pictures, some are painted the body color to the edge. Others are painted to black and the cowl panel sits on to paint the body color of course. Just wanted an idea the way they came. Thanks

Try a search on the topic, it's been covered here before. The body color isn't broken by a definite line at the firewall. It is actually somewhat oversprayed onto the firewall. In previous posts, some of the guys posted original pics...some are a fairly neat fade line near the roll of the firewall, and some have heavy overspray well down onto the firewall. Either way, it definitely isn't a clean tape line.
Hope this helps...

Ok, i read all that and im still confused. If you took off the cowl panel it should be the body color (right). Then at the curve going down the firewall is black. I have thought about painting my firewall black and under the cowl panel black. Then put the cowl panel back on. I think it would look clean. Whats yall thoughts. thanks

CamaroJSU, we just painted the firewall in the 67 and did exactly like you suggested. Took the cowl panel off, painted every thing black and reinstalled the panel.Looks fine!! :D

Really depends on whether you want to paint it the way it left the factory, or paint it the way you like it.

CamaroJSU. Look at my signature. I recreated the color and overspray as per factory. I documented every step along the way prior to tear down. The firewall is shot last at the factory. The spray marks are as they were found on tear down. My car was a survivor that I decided to do a concourse on. The cowl area is not painted black, but rather the color of the car as it left the assembly line. Need a firewall stamp kit ??
