Well, I was able to install a 461 BBC with a 5 speed TKO-600 into my SB-auto car with little effort. The only problem I'm having is with the PS. I have the brackets for a 68 and I'm running a Short water pump with a double grooved crank pulley, but I can't seem to find a PS pump that will work. Found one off a 65 implala that bolted in had the correct fittings but the pulley was out too far. Tried Paddock and they sent me what appears to be a 69 pump.
Do I need a triple groove crank pulley? Does the 68 run a special pulley or unique pump? Anyone have a picture of a 68 BBC motor with PS. I guess if I knew what I was looking for that would help.
Thanks

I'm putting a 489 in my 68. I used a long water pump though and alan grove brackets. I have a 3v crank pulley and a 2v ps pulley and my ps hooks up to the outer groove on the ps and the middle groove on the crank. Alternator and water pump are on the ouet groove of the crank pulley. I bought a chrome aftermarket ps pump from Jegs that looks great and fit right in. I know March makes several different ps pulleys for BBC that have different amounts of offset, so maybe one with more offset may help for you. I just went with the triple crank pulley for more options. Hope this helps.

Email Jim at the email listed below....He will have the correct pulleys that you need (assuming you are looking for OEM). He is helping me with my 68 BBC PS pulleys. I think he might have all pulleys listed in a data base so he knows just what you need. He is a great guy to deal with and is very reasonable as far as cost goes. While researching the actual pump itself it looks to me that 68 and older had the resevoir that was round at the fill spout and the 69 and later had a squared /angular resevoir. I don't know if all the 68 and older pumps were the same with the exception of the mounting brackets. I have the correct resevoir and was thinking of going to Advance Auto Parts and getting the rebuilt pump section for a 68 and install it to the resevoir that I have. Hope it all works out. Just give Jim a shout he can help.

I suspect your crank pulley too, or you may not have the brackets quite right.
Looking at the 68 AIM, the following things are the same for a V8 power steering application:
- pump assembly
- lower (cradle bracket) bracket (unless it was an SS350 or Z, which used a different bracket)
- rear brace (unless it was an SS350 or Z, which used a different brace)
For some reason, the BB cars used a different bolt and nut on the outside (toward frame rail) on the cradle bracket. I have no idea why that would be...
So, your best bet may be to post the part numbers and/or photos for the cradle bracket, rear brace, pump, and crank pulley, and we can try to figure out what's not quite right.

Thanks for the replies. I did a little reserch, the brackets are unique to the 67 and 68 Big Blocks. The PS pumps changed in 1969 (different fitting and resover) I have the correct pump and brackets for a 68 so it appears I need a different pulley with more offset. I'll e-mail Jim...worst case it looks like I could use an after market alm. double groove pulley and just run on the inside groove.

Not sure if anyone cares, but I finally finished my PS after some research. Normally the PS is driven by the third groove on the crank pulley of a short water pumped BBC. I didn't have room for a 3 groove crank due to the radiator fans so I installed a double grove pulley on the PS pump and used the Back groove on the pump and 2nd groove on the crank.
