Your first post was at 3:01, 2nd post at 3:15, please dont expect instant help from an all volunteer site. Some folks wait a day or more for help on their car questions. Im sure someone will comment, sorry I have no clue to your answer.

Most window units these days have sealed refrigerant systems with no service ports - they're "throwaway" items.

this one is about 15-20 years old. and has a tube that sticks up and it looks like it was already clamped or done before.

I wouldn't call a window air conditioner a "throw away" item. Some of them are pretty inexpensive and it is cheaper to just throw them away. All newer a/c systems are "sealed systems". You can buy line taps to access the system. R-22 is just another form of refrigerant. It is not as bad for the environment as say R-12. R-22 runs alot more pressure than, R12. If your a/c allready has a tap on it ... it may need recharging. The leak must be found and repaired before it is recharged. I highly reccomend you take it to a qualified tech. for repair. Most a/c problems are caused simply by dirt. A good thorough cleaning is all that is needed. You must remove the outer case and a few fan gaurds to do this right. Good Luck, Tom

I'm guessing for the price you pay to have that old one fixed, you could buy a new one that is much more energy efficient (and quieter).
