The rear quarter openings were beat back with a rather large hammer back in the Seventies to clear some big ole meats. We recently had a local shop rework them as well as replace the front heater opening with a panel from a donor 69 Camaro. Our opening was butchered to make room for the 12 point cage (which has been since removed).

The other panels were supplied by Sherman Associates (http://www.shermanparts.com/)

The work was done by Scott at Kreative Body Werks in Clinton Twp - 586-468-6008

Looking at that heater opening, how does that look to the rest of you guys? I haven't checked if the heater box will cover most of that up yet?

I think the box will cover most of that up, but I'd smooth it all the way around a bit more, then reseal it smoother than that. You should be able to grind those tack welds down a bit also. The portion at the bottom will never show, but some of it along the top might.
If you\they haven't already, I'd run sealer around that repair on the inside also, not just the outside. That's just me.

How did you\they smooth that firewall-to-cowl seam? It looks like it's been filled a little bit with something but left alone otherwise. I'm gonna make mine disappear if I can.

Lookin' good so far though!

Thanks. I know he did seal the inside as well as the outside. We'll clean it up.

The fw/cowl seam is factory. He only replaced the panel around the heater opening itself.

Cleaning up the heater box area will make you much happier in the long run. The rest looks good. Keep it up.

HwyStarJoe, I smoothed the firewall in my 69. I grinded down all the high spots and removed all the seam sealer. Then mig welded all the way across the seam. Then grinded down the mig weld. I used ALL METAL filler across the seam and sanded with a long board to make it straight. The reason I welded across the seam is because some stress will eventually crack the ALL METAL. I also welded up all the small holes and filled any big holes also with metal pieces.

Hmmmm.... welding the seam! I was toying with different methods of making the seam disappear but never thought to weld it. That would certainly cut down on the amount of "filler" or whatever that's needed to smooth it. Good idea.

I was going to try and hammer-&-dolly out as many of those pesky indentations all over the firewall that I can get to. It's going to painted body color so smoothness is a must.
