Hello. We just purchased a 1989 Camaro RS with a full iroc package.(8 cyl 5 speed).
Its runs sluggish and hesitates when its cold, but once its warmed up its not bad at all. Thing is, every now and then while driving, the "service engine soon" light comes on and immediatley the car begins to run very sluggish. If I stop at the next stop light and turn off the vehicle and restart it, the light goes out, and the car begins to run fine again until the next time that this happens, in which i just repeat the process.
Someone told me it could be the 02 sensor.
So, I used my Actron GM scanner, and its showing a code 43 (ESC - electronic spark control problem). Which could mean a few different things such as: ("Faulty or loose wiring and/or connections to ECM terminal L, Faulty or loose wiring and/or connections from the ESC controller to the ECM, Faulty or loose wiring and/or connections from the knock sensor to ESC controller, Voltage at ECM A-B connector terminal B7 should be over 6 volts unless the system is sensing detonation, Faulty ESC sensor and/or module")
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what i should do first to remedy this problem?
I'm not even sure of where to locate the ESC.
Should I just replace the ESC once I find it, or should I take it in to be diagnosed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Kevin
