Hey Guys,

I am currently installing a Keisler/Tremec TKO-500 in my auto-equipped 69 SS. I just received the 69 shift boot/retainer and I have a question on its installation. Due to its construction, does part of the boot install on the tranny side and the rest get screwed get down thru the retainer on the interior side? Sorry, sounds confusing but if you've seen a 69 boot (not 67-68) you'd know what I mean.

Kevin -

Did you looks at GMJim's post on his TKO600 install? I can't recall if he has his boot pics on there.

From what I understand, and how I will be installing mine, is that everything stays inside the car. The bottom surface sets on top of the tunnel, the carpet sits in the groove around the boot, and the retainer ring screws on top.

Thanks Eric! Makes sense - just not like any other boot installs I've done (e.g. 68 Camaro, 71 Chevelle). I did do a lot of searching and came up empty regarding a detailed boot install - lots of other great info though. Good luck with your 69 project!

For what it's worth, I checked the 69 AIM, UPC M20, and page A1 shows the install as I described.

In that case, I'd say that it is worth a whole lot! Will do - thanks again.

WOW, didn't know that the boot rode ontop of the floor pan. I had half through the shifter hole. Since all I have is a drvs seat in the car I'll change the shifter boot to be correct. Thanks Always good to read other posts to pickup on things you didn't know!
