: Fuel Tank mounting hardware

I ordered a bunch of hardware kits, brackets, and the like from NPD yesterday, but one thing they were out of stock on was the fuel tank mounting hardware kit - looking at the pictures, this just looks like a pair of standard carriage bolts, washers, and a pair of nuts for each bolt. Can I just go to the hardware store and buy the correct, or close enough, bolts, nuts, and washers? What size should I be looking for? Thanks.

Thanks - probably save a bit of money doing it this way. My car is basically a shell, I'm missing hardware for almost everything. I bought a stainless hardware kit for the whole car, it has most things, but it's not totally complete. Not having the correct hardware can be a real pain when trying to put stuff together!

Visit the local hardware and go stainless if possible. The carriage bolts are rather long so you slide the strap over them and cinch them up.

Actually I bought the complete SS bolt kit and it has the bolts for the fuel tank strap. I believe I bought the kit from Classic Industries. Double check your kit again.

Hmm... I'll double check that. My kit came from The Paddock about 5 or 6 years ago - made by a company called "Totally Stainless" or something like that. There's a good chance some parts of it have gone missing, though, as it was sitting around in a body shop for quite a few years (Quite a few other parts have gone missing). I just looked through it a week ago or so, and didn't see anything resembling the gas tank mounting kit, but I'll double check just in case. Thanks - I really hate buying things twice!

try ricks first generation,i dont have the site info handy just search ricks first generation on the web,i ordered a set of straps and hardware the other day,its cheap and it realy looks good w/fresh stuff on the under side,be sure to get the anti-squeak strips too,or you can cut some out of a old innertube off a big truck or tractor

Dont put the "anti squeak" strips under the straps. The original tanks didnt have them so they are not needed.

Hmm... I've read pros and cons to the anti-squeak strips, I bought the more expensive, but still cheap, neoprene set from NPD. I'll give them a try and see how they work, I can always take them out if I don't think they're necessary. I haven't been out to the car again (it's in the body shop) to see if the fuel tank mounting hardware is still in my bolt kit, but if it's not I'll just go to the hardware store and get some stainless carriage bolts. This is the first time I've ordered from NPD, their Michigan depot is a lot closer to me than Ricks or Classic Industries, I figured shipping might be cheaper. I'll see how they do - next time I might try Rick's, I've heard good things about them. So far I've used Classic Industries a couple of times, and the Paddock once several years ago.
