View Full Version : HEADERS FOR EDELBROCK HEADS
CA420 May 3rd, 00, 07:18 AM I HAVE EDELBROCK HEADS ON MY ENGINE AND HAVE SPARK PLUG CLEARANCE PROBLEMS ON THE NUMBER 6 CYLINDER USING MY SUMMIT HEADERS. THE PLUG GOES IN FINE BUT I CANNOT PUT THE PLUG WIRE ON.I ADVISED THE SALES PERSON EXACTLY WHAT THE HEADERS WERE GOING ON AND THAT I HAVE POWER STEERING AND THE HEADS WITH STRAIGHT PLUGS. CALLED SUMMIT LATER AND THEY SAID WITH ALUMINUM HEADS IT IS HIT OR MISS WITH FIT. MY QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE HAVE EDELBROCK HEADS WITH HEADERS THAT FIT WELL ON A SMALLBLOCK? I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO BUY NEW HEADERS.

RockyMtnRacer May 3rd, 00, 07:46 AM I have Performer RPM heads on a SB with Hedman Headers. They fit pretty good and most of the plugs are accessible. There are a couple that are a bit tight to get in and out (like #5 and #8) but I'm running MSD wires with big, fat plug boots and none of them touch the headers. BTW - this is with the Champion plugs recommended by Edelbrock. I just bought the AC Delcos and they look to be the same size so they should fit fine also.

davidpozzi May 3rd, 00, 11:09 AM I think Accel makes a "shortie" spark plug that may help.

CA420 May 3rd, 00, 12:48 PM accel does not make a shorty plug for edelbrock heads at this time. take a 14mm 3/4 inch reach, 5/8 hex gasketed plug. only offer standard length right now

1968rs May 3rd, 00, 04:00 PM I have the performer RPM heads and PS & AC. I used hedman headers, I think the part number is 65003. The only clearance problem was I had to dent in for the steering box and I had to dimple in for the AC evaporator box. The plugs all fit good.
1968rs May 3rd, 00, 04:04 PM Some of you might already know this, but if you need to dimple in on the headers, all you need to do is heat it up where you want the dimple and put a ball ping hammer on the spot and hit it with another hammer.
Ray McCarthy May 5th, 00, 05:39 AM Accel makes header plugs for this type of situation. Before you sell your headers check out the shorter plugs to see if it helps.
Ray McCarthy May 5th, 00, 05:44 AM Sorry...Just saw the reply about the accel plugs not being able to fit your heads. Please disregard my comment http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
